Gabes, I want to say I am sorry for getting upset and riled with you. I WAS WRONG! I need you and Wayne more than you need me. You are both a wealth of valuable information. I was upset and hell-bent on going to Peru. I did get sick and contracted food poisoning. We saved a long time for Peru and I couldn't see losing nearly $5,000, already paid for the 14 day trip.

Everyone is so nice and polite on Wayne's site and I enjoy conversing with everyone. Life is easier with Wayne's group and this site provides answers that doctors can't or will not provide.

Gabes, someone stated that Tyson frozen chicken nuggets contained fillers. Do you know any thing about that? Something should be done if Tyson Foods is putting fillers in their meats. I really feel the American Diet is killing us. I know too many people dying from pancreatic cancer, bile duct cancer and stomach cancer.

If you do find the facts on Tyson Foods, would it be okay if I contacted the The Agriculture Department and complain to them concerning Tyson Foods injecting their meat with fillers? No wonder we're getting sick and dying at a young age. This has to stop. We are being poisoning by our food providers. We need to start buying our food directly from the farms. Glad we are friends!

I am sad to hear your trip did not go to plan, after saving and planning etc.

I live in Australia, so can not comment on food supply items /processes in other countries.
Long story short, I am very lucky living in Australia as we have some of the strictest food /food labelling laws across the globe.

There are a few discussions about labelling laws on the forum if you do a search.
Like issues with medical system, big pharma etc, There is limited scope of success in trying to change a large company's approach to how they make profit, and it is not worthy of our energies.

Put energy into things that will benefit. Yourself, family and friends etc.
that is why I try to give as much time here (and other health groups) as I can.
When people are sick and tired of being sick and tired, they will embrace the suggestions here.

The other aspect to this, if people base their eating plan on whole foods, fillers won't be an issue.
There are loads of safe eating options out there... we have choices. We are not forced to eat those items.

Rest up, nurture yourself for a few weeks. Calm rest is what your body needs most.

In a previous post you mentioned medication. What medication can I take - NOT STEROIDS, since I've taken steroids before and it drove me to Madness? I was sick for months on end and experienced very high blood sugars and my life was miserable. On a lighter note, I met two girls from Australia who became good friends. Thanks for the info. Hi Dorothy,

I'm sorry that you got sick on the trip and had food poisoning. Traveling can be tricky before we are able to get our symptoms under control and our intestines heal. I'll attempt the Tyson chicken nugget question. I assume you're referring to the gluten-free version of Tyson Chicken Nuggets, because the other versions all contain gluten. Their GF chicken nuggets contain the following ingredients:
Boneless, skinless chicken breast with rib meat, water, yellow corn flour, rice flour, brown rice flour, contains 2% or less of the following: cocoa powder, corn starch, dried garlic, dried onion, extractives of paprika, natural flavor, salt, sea salt, soybean oil, spices, sugar, yeast extract. Breading set in vegetable oil
The only problems I'm aware of are the soybean oil (which is often a problem for MC patients who are sensitive to soy), the "natural flavor" (which could be made from anything, which makes it a high-risk ingredient), and the "yeast extract" (many of us are sensitive to yeast until we have healed). For some of us, the garlic, onion, "extractives of paprika" and/or spices may be a problem. But as far as I can find out (from testing agency reports), their nuggets don't contain anything that's not on the label. I couldn't find any tests that reported any "undeclared ingredients".

They contain a lot of ingredients, but that's a common problem with most processed foods, and it's why we recommend preparing our own food, from scratch.

This is a key area for many MC'ers in the wellness journey. Do a search for word 'histamine, and you will get lots of informative discussions.

Tyson frozen meat

Thanks Wayne, concerning ingredients in the frozen Tyson Chicken Nuggets. Craig, my husband bought the nuggets and said it only included breast meat, water, and one or two additives. He doesn't remember if it was GF or not. I don't think he would've bought meat with all those ingredients. Thanks for the information! Dorothy Williams

Hidden additives is a key reason why we encourage 'whole food' based eating plan, and avoiding any food product that has more than 4-5 ingredients. Especially in the early stages of healing.

What's so sad is we can't trust the food manufacturers. They state what's in their food in the ingredient list, but apparently they are not being forthright and truthful. Who do we trust? I know you're in Australia and you have better regulations and rules concerning food, but we have a problem with TRUST. I am not getting riled up, and keeping cool so I don't get sick. I am taking your advice Gabes. You're a great person. Dorothy

I still only eat food made from scratch at home its safest but last weekend I bought ham from the deli and got glutened from the meat slicer
so its back to pre pack only for me I have A list of gluten free ham

Appreciate your comment on ham contamination. I eat only Boar's Head Ham and do well. I know this diet thing stinks. My friends have invited me to a neighborhood block party and that makes me nervous. I'll go with a GF drink in hand and talk. I have also noticed that's it's not what you eat but how much you eat. I had a simple hamburger and fruit that never bothers me last night for supper. I was still hungry, so I had two bananas and that set me off. I was sick. Bananas never bother me. Are the muscles in our colon unable to handle much food. I don't eat much anyway. Eating has terrified me. Dorothy

I usually "pre eat" before I go to parties and then bring something to share that is of course Brandy friendly.

Then I try to concentrate on socializing at social functions rather than eating.

The absolute worst is my boyfriend's company's Christmas party in Thomasville GA. The ONLY thing that I can
eat at that function is the peel and eat shrimp. The rest of the menu that I cannot eat is: fried catfish, fried shrimp,
fried chicken, fried oysters, french fries, hushpuppies, bread and a couple more fried things that I forget. Basically it
is a fry fest. They don't serve coleslaw, they don't serve any veggies or salad. I eat a heap of peel and eat
shrimp and bring my own dinner.

Maybe it's a histamine issue. For me (and this may only apply to me, because it depends on what else is in my diet), I can always safely eat half a banana. But whether or not I can eat a whole banana depends on how much histamine is in my diet from other foods on any particular day. And for me, two bananas would probably always provide too much histamine.

But I also agree that if I eat too much, it can upset my digestion, although it usually doesn't cause diarrhea for me.

So we do have to be careful about the amount of food we eat. It's a histamine thing, correct? Taking Zyrtec may help, right? My diarrhea is now non-stop and I'm concerned about this mystery disease that has plagued me all my life. I worry about wearing a colostomy bag after my colon is partially cut out. I have not been told this...but it's in the back of my mind. The more I learn about Microscopic Colitis, the more I realize this is a serious disease treated by GI specialists who don't understand us. Sad state of affairs.

I looked on my list of foods for the "Specific Carbohydrate Diet" and it says to consume bananas with black spot peels. I've been eating green/yellow peel bananas with no black spots. This can help us.

Wayne, I have been reduced to trying medications. Being diabetic, I can't take steroids. Can you tell me what drug would help me with nutrition and hair growth? I feel I'm going down and I'm tired and feel sick.

Thanks Brandy for the tip on attending gatherings. When I attended the Seafood Fest in Pin Point, GA, the only thing I consumed was boiled shrimp and steamed soft-shell crabs. I was fine. If I attend the block party, I'll eat before and make some dish. I don't know what kind of dish since my diet has done a 180 degree turn.

Well, the histamine issue applies mainly to foods that contain high histamine levels. But apart from that (and this applies to everyone who has MC), we do much better if we eat smaller, more frequent meals. This is due to the fact that when the small intestine is inflamed, it becomes unable to produce normal amounts of digestive enzymes. That means that if we eat large meals, we are more likely to run out of digestive enzymes before we finish digesting the meal, compared with eating smaller meals. If we run out of enzymes, the last part of a meal may be incompletely digested. That allows opportunistic bacteria to take advantage of the situation to ferment that poorly-digested food when it reaches the colon, causing gas, bloating, cramps, and diarrhea.

The SCD makes no allowance for histamine issues. Histamine issues were unknown back in the days when the SCD was developed. Bananas with black spots are usually a relatively high-histamine food. I have to peel and freeze the bananas I eat when they still have green streaks on the peel, otherwise they contain too much histamine (for me). They are usually so green that they don't even peel smoothly. If I eat half a banana that has black spots on the peel (or brown spots on the banana itself) I will usually break out in hives and a rash that itches like mad. But that doesn't necessarily mean that you would have the same symptoms. I probably have a worse histamine problem than most people who are bothered by histamine.
