Alternating C and D, Drug-induced MC
Last summer for two months I felt great after three months of tracking diet. No more IBS symptoms. I wrote down every single thing that went into my mouth. My doctor monitored with me. I have a food diary. Then I was prescribed Ranitidine July 20th. By August 11th I had explosive nightly and daily diarrhea. My doctor suspected MC. She did a lot of tests but I couldn't afford the colonoscopy she recommended because diagnostic was not covered until after I paid a $3,000 deductible. The health care system stepped in and I applied for their huge discounts through community care. They took all my bills off the table and told me not to pay a cent any longer. It was October before I was diagnosed. My doctor is as convinced as am I that Ranitidine was the source of my MC, and the diet I was following was working. I have reported this to the makers, Glenmark, and to the FDA. I am as unique as everyone is when it comes to diet. Many medication constipate me. The doctor wants to discover if it is the budesonide that is causing it now. I have begun to add in a few fruits. Just have to wait to see if it does the trick.
It shouldn't be very difficult to pinpoint budesonide as the source of your current constipation problems. Constipation is listed as a side effect on the budesonide label.
If you Google Ranitidine and microscopic colitis, you'll find that Raniditine has been documented as a cause of MC by published medical case studies as far back as 1995. So that finding won't come as a surprise to the manufacturers.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Medication and Reporting
Yep, I have a lot of studies on Ranitidine. I felt it was my civic duty to report it even if manufacturers know. If the FDA doesn't here from people they won't have records of complaints. The manufacturer is in the Philippines. I imagine less than great quality control given the painstaking conversation I had with the person writing up my report who spoke little English.
