Good advice from my GI doctor that I stupidly didn't listen
Hi all! I was originally diagnosed via colonoscopy in Sept 2012 after a hellacious month long flare. I struggled on and off through the years, but always found remission when I kept to my safe foods. I was doing poorly back in the beginning of Sept and scheduled my 2nd colonoscopy (my GI had wanted to do it back in the Spring 2018 but insurance wasn't going to cover the cost). It was scheduled for 1 1/2 months later. By the time my colonoscopy rolled around, I was feeling and doing much better.
I had my follow-up on Monday. No signs of inflammation and biopsies all came back normal. I said to my GI, "you've cured me!". He responded, "oh no no, whatever you ve been doing worked, but remember, it can come back".
Stupid stupid me had an oatmeal fruit smoothie yesterday afternoon. Bad...BAD decision. This is something that would have set me off in the past. And today I am sitting here in a terrible flare.
Remember folks, it can come back. Learn from me. Don't drink that smoothie.

Hi Jessica,
Sorry to hear that you're having a flare, and I hope it doesn't last long. That was kind of a cruel (but valuable) lesson.
Could you share the name of your GI doc? It sounds as though having him as one's GI doctor (for an MC patient) is better than winning the lottery. He appears to actually understand the disease, which makes him a rare find.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Jessica,
Apparently your doctor has treated enough MC cases that he realizes just how tough the disease can be to treat, and he keeps an open mind. Good for him.
