Should I retest with Enterolab?
I am recently back. I was originally diagnosed in 2013 and reached a pretty healthy remission sometime in 2014. I had added many things back into my diet, like dairy, but not gluten or soy.
I am in the midst of a terrific flare, since Thanksgiving. I tightened my diet to what it was before, but the flare continues.
Do you think retesting with Enterolab would be helpful? My original testing was in late 2013.
Are the sensitivities likely to have changed?
This group was how I obtained remission before. Thank you so much for your thoughts.

Hi Darla,
Sorry you are here
What I've found with my one reflare was that I had to go down to like 3 foods. i.e. take it to very, very, narrow number of foods.
It was tough mentally as I'd been eating a broad category of foods.
I also find I have to ditch all supplements for awhile. It was very, very tough for me to stop oral mag glycinate
but once I did and switched to epsom salt foot baths I bounced back pretty quickly.
I never retested. You might try switching to the few food regimen and eliminating supplements for awhile and
if that does not work to the enterolab.
The few food regimen for me would have been something like rice, chicken, coconut oil, and bananas.
I struggled with a reflare for about 9 months (mostly in denial) but when I switched to the few food regimen and ditched
supplements I responded pretty quickly, I want to say in several weeks.
IF you did not pick up Tex's book last time link is top right corner. Brandy

Hi Darla,
It's possible for additional sensitivities to develop over time, but there are only a limited number of possibilities. For example, originally I tested negative to soy, but about ten years later I became sensitive to soy. The big four are the main risks, and as Brandy pointed out, that can be handled by an exclusion diet.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks for your response, Brandy.
OUCH! I have cut out many things, but I honestly hadn't considered cutting down this dramatically. And I do think denial has had something to do with it, because looking back, things had started to be more problematic as far back as September. It gradually spiraled down to total liquid the Monday before Thanksgiving. Wow, it will take me a minute to wrap my head around this idea.

Hi Darla,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.....I've only had one bad reflare. But....it was a 9 month reflare. It was
hard for me to fathom that I could eat a salad one day and not the next. It was hard for me to fathom that
I could eat olive oil for years and then overnight I could not. I think I was in denial for 9 months and
thought I would kick out of the flare. Believe me, understand the depression and needing a minute.
The good news was once I wrapped my mind around getting serious I kicked out of the flare pretty quickly.
I'm backing to eating salads, raw apple, and don't tell anyone but I had goats milk gouda last week.

Thanks for your response, too, Tex.
I have reread the MCC book, and the Vitamin D3 book. I do only have the original version, however.
Brandy,
How did you figure out that you one day could not tolerate olive oil, for example.
I guess what I am really asking is how did you decide on the "the three foods"?
I have reviewed my Enterolab results from 2013. At that point, there was no significant immunological reactivity to Corn Beef Chicken Pork Walnut Cashew and White potato.
There was 3+ to rice and tuna, and 1+ to oat and almond.
So, if I stick to the foods in the 'no significant immunological reactivity' category, is that elimination enough, do you think? Did you eliminate all vegetables for a few weeks?
I recently increased my magnesium glycinate, wondering if I was deficient and that was delaying healing.
So many variables.....

Olive oil--I had extreme gurgling when I went into the flare
Ghee--gurgling
Onions, raw or cooked--gurgling and gas
Celery--gurgling and gas
Cooked garlic--gurgling
tomato sauce--gurgling
All of the above I'm sure kept the WD going.
Prior to flare I was able to eat all of this stuff,no problem. For 6 months b/f flare I was going down hill. I think stress
plus too many nutthins, too many coconut oil potato chips, too many GF cookies and stress threw me into flare.
My serving size of nutthins would be a box and my serving size of coconut oil would be a bag. Basically I was eating
too junkie.
It was weird when my flare started because it was almost like my gut biome changed due to a tipping point in the biome.
For example say Sunday I could eat olive oil, no problem, no gurgling and next day Monday in major WD flare and
olive oil now caused extreme gurgling.
I bought boxed GF broth. I bought several packs of chicken breasts, I bought bananas, I bought canned pumpkin,
I bought a lot of frozen green beans.
Day 1 and day 2--I was drinking a lot of GF broth, eating chicken and rice
Day 3 and Day 4--I added canned pumpkin and bananas to the above
approx Day 6-7--I added a bit of overcooked green beans to the above, also some coconut oil
THis is about what I ate for the first 30 days, plus an avacado here and there. I also would have had a
baked potato here and there.
When I started all of this I was kind of depressed and angry at myself and picked foods that were easy to make
in large lots and that I knew that I could generally tolerate. I made a large vat of rice. I boiled a ton of chicken breasts,
cut them in cubes and put them in freezer and each day I would bring out a day's portion and I also remember
cooking a large lot of green beans. Of all of the foods the green beans were probably the riskiest due to fiber so
I did not eat as much of them and overcooked them but still probably risky.
THe good news was that by approx week 5 I was able to add back oral mag glycinate. Week 6 I added back oral
vitamin D3. I had eliminated oral supplements on day 1. It was very difficult for me to eliminate the oral
mag glycinate as I use it as a sleep aid in the evening. I switched to epsom salt baths but they did not
work as well as a sleep aid.
Overall by week 4-5 I was doing pretty good.
I can now eat olive oil, ghee (in smaller quantities), raw and cooked onion, raw celery, cooked garlic, tomato sauce etc no problem
Hopefully this helps, believe me I get the denial. I think during the 9 month flare I thought I would just magically kick out
of it and before I knew it 9 months had elapsed and still WD. When I narrowed the foods down, I improved pretty quickly.
Once I set things in motion it wasn't too bad. My boyfriend thought I was a nut job but whatever.
