entocort ?
Can someone explain to me why entocort (budesine sp.) comes in different colored pills. I am taking 3mg capsules but the pharmacy keeps wanting to give me different colored capsules. They say they are by the same manufacture and are still 3mg, so should work the same? Thanks for any info. Vivian
Hi Vivian,
I'm not sure that production specifications are still the same (although they probably are), but when the patent timed out on Entocort, and generic competition entered the market, AstraZeneca decided to produce the original Entocort formulation in a generic version so that they could continue selling the original version at a premium price, while grabbing as much of the generic market as they could with a disguised pill. Supposedly they just changed the color on the generics so that everyone would think that it was a different product, but apparently it's just Entocort in a different color capsule. There are multiple manufacturers of generic budesonide now, I believe, so there's no telling what color capsules you might encounter with those. Anyway, the colors are just a consequence of competition. They should work the same.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
