Advice for a friend
Hello all,
I hope to find everyone well and staying warm on this cold day! I seem to have gotten my life back on the fast track now that I am doing better with my colitis, all thanks to you!
I am asking for help with my friend's 15 yr old daughter. She is experiencing severe abdominal pain with no D and has lost 26 pounds since this started around Thanksgiving of last year. She has been on various antibiotics prior to this. She suffers from asthma also. I will attach her dr. reports below. She doesn't have H-pylori. She did have a slightly enlarged liver and an expanded colon. No reports of colitis or celiac (of course). I have told her to start the allergy free, plain diet and work on getting the inflammation down. This is different because she doesn't have D. They are giving her miralax to take daily because she has lost the sensation to know when to go to the bathroom and told her it could take up to 3 years to get that sensation back?? Her pediatric dr told her this probably happened due to a virus that she had around that time...….Her GI dr is telling her to eat lots of fruit and that they have no clue what is wrong. Any opinions or advice about this?
I so appreciate your help and so does she!!
One more thing, does anyone know what has happened to vitamin d council? I can't purchase their test kits or get a hold of them?? TIA

Martha, I don't have any info for your friend but this link seems to be working for the Vitamin D Council. https://www.vitamindcouncil.org/

Hi Martha,
Glad to hear you are doing better with your colitis. Always nice to see updates from others.
As for your friends daughter, this sounds like a tricky one to figure out. You haven't mentioned if she has sought a 2nd opinion from another GI doctor. If not, I absolutely positively would do so. Sometimes, just getting a fresh set of eyes on her problem is enough to lead them down the path to a diagnosis and possibly better treatment path.
What you have described must be very difficult for a 15 year old girl to endure. I wish her well.

Hi Martha,
My first instinct was what is her VitD level....because slow movement could be insufficient magnesium in the cells and we know these two work in tandem, and the liver sounds like it is slow as well. I have read up on a couple items regarding Celery juice for the liver...google this and see what you think. This along with the VitD/Magnesium is a good start because the next thing I would suggest is the S.Boulardii prebiotic, she may need a better combination of bacteria in the gut. I know she is 15, but this may be an area of need for this individual. One more item of interest would be to research the Silver Solution rxsilver.com and see if what it offers would be of help at this time as well....it addresses yeast, mold, fungi, viruses and bacterial issues, it has helped me immensely since last April 2018.
Hope you all find answers soon,
Erica

Hey Deb, yeah the website is working fine, its when you order the test kit. It won't let me pay for it and I can't contact them.
Thank you Erica! Good advice! I will tell her. I truly feel it is a nutrient deficiency and I was worried about yeast too. She was on an antibiotic for 6 months for acne prior to this. She has taken many antibiotics for sinus infections.
Thank you tommy! It is so nice to have my life back. I do have ups and downs, but I am not confined to my recliner any more. Almost 4 years into diet change and its amazing the difference.

Martha,
FWIW, I don't see anything remarkable in the reports. The problem may involve an allergy/intolerance, but if it does, it doesn't appear to be gluten (at least based on these results).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
You may well be right. A casein test at EneroLab would verify that, or rule it out.Martha wrote:Thank you Tex for looking at it! I thought dairy, since its constipation...

HI Martha,
As someone who is C prominent, I can at least relate to her symptoms without D (although I also had nausea). My whole GI tract seems to be in slow motion and my food intolerances (gluten, soy, dairy) and stress will all cause C. Like the others mentioned, I also wonder about her magnesium level and other vitamin levels as other mentioned.
Months on antibiotics could certainly do some significant gut damage. For immune system support she may want to consider seeing a functional med doc. Her enlarged liver indicates that her body is struggling to clear out toxins. They would check her vitamin levels, plus a variety of other things (like CRP levels) to see where all of that is at.
I'm currently trying Biocidin which is a natural antifungal and antibacterial. I'm giving it a try as a treatment for SIBO, but where it has been the most helpful so far is that I put a drop or two in my Neti pot when I irrigate my sinuses. I'm having a much better winter- less bleeding sinuses and almost no throat irritation. I still use my salt and soda combination along with the Biocidin, so if she's prone to sinus infections I HIGHLY recommend sinus irrigation. I used to have 2 sinus infections a year and once I started daily irrigation I been able to deal with anything that comes up. I have not needed an antibiotic for several years.
If her symptoms persist, I think the Enterolab tests would be a good idea, but I'd look at the other things we've mentioned above as well.
Congrats to you on getting your life back! It's always great to hear another success story.
Carol
