Any suggestions for little snacks?

Post by A lot of work ahead of me »

I am only a week into my recovery so far and am on the Bude........trying to start my new lifestyle now so I have a jump start when the Bude ends/tapers......

I sit at a desk all day long at work and am constantly needing something to snack on - not sure if it's the Bude making my stomach feel so hollow but I feel like I need something in my stomach every hour or so or I can't focus on work.

What do people recommend? I bought a box of Gluten free cereal and kept that at my desk yesterday to eat dry when I had the urge to snack. It tasted like I would imagine eating dried crunchy leaves that you rake up outside and left a nasty taste in my mouth.

Going shopping this weekend - Trader Joe's for sure. Have to have a munchy type item to get through work.

Thanks for any suggestions. I eat a couple bananas already during the day so I am all banana'd out.

Plain Fritos always works for me. They're pretty greasy and salty, it might not be good for you. I think most people don't believe me when I tell them it's better for me to eat Fritos than fruit.

please avoid the box of cereal for now, it still has low grade amounts of gluten etc

a key part of healing is protein, protein, protein.
Have larger serves of protein at meals, and use protein for snacks.

cold meats, etc
another option is protein powder with some almond milk or coconut milk

I used to snack on plain old Lay's Potato Chips, but they're too greasy for me now.

A couple of good things to try - thank you! Fritoes? Hip Hip Hooray!! and the lays potato chips are my FAV.

Oh you are so correct on that cereal! I am so new at this - I saw "Gluten Free" on the box and bought it. After the reaction I had I read the ingredients. Full of fiber and honey and all sorts of nasty stuff. "apple pieces" even - hmmm. bad

I agree with the protein suggestion - it really does seem to calm my gut right now. Just made two big pkgs of organic chicken in broth and I love that cold. For lunch today i just had a big slab of ham cut up and it really satisfied me for quite a long time at work.

I also found the "Enjoy Life" brand has a brownie that is really, really good and it goes in great.

THANK YOU!

P.S. Bude is rearing it's ugly head a bit also. I'm entering my 2nd week on it and started getting a small nagging headache and feel a bit numb mentally, not depressed, but just a feeling that I am aware I am on a med. i will stay on it though.

Budesonide dramatically increases some people's appetite.

Having problems with food

I ate potato chips and did not digest them. Yuck- saw them in the toilet. Too hard and I paid for it. Even chicken that is hard is not good. Everything has to be super soft for me. I miss sunflower seeds in the shell for a snack, but know I can't have them. My savior is Pumpkin Pie made with honey, small amount of brown sugar and spices. I eat it for lunch, dinner and love it for breakfast. Still can't find if it's a vegetable or fruit. I thought it was an enemy but it's soft and soothing. Getting ready to make two pies without crust of course in a few minutes. Plus it does not raise my blood sugar. Still having a ocean in my gut rumbling and then the trouble starts. Oh, how I wish this disease would vanish.

oh that pie sounds good! At this point i am still on the Bude and so things are going well of course but i am going to be starting my taper in 15 days apparently so am testing the new diet. I had the best day today! I boiled baby carrots for like two hours and had my usual chicken/rice/broth and the carrots - it was lovely and filling! My dog even enjoyed a mush carrot! LOL

So far, my best "treat" that I can find is the Enjoy Life brand chocolate brownie. Not sure why but they go in good and I don't feel my usual colon twitch at all.

But now I am intrigued by the pie!

I am on here tonight snooping about magnesium. Bought the D3 today but the pharmacist said she never heard of Magnesium spray or whatever that is I am supposed to get on right away.

Here's one brand (and there are some other brands farther down the page):

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=ancient+mine ... 7781588706

Some members use Life-Flow. It costs less and works just as well.

Is the main symptom diarrhea? Are you aware that more than a few dogs have food allergies/sensitivities because they have MC, or some other issue? In such cases, vets prescribe gluten-free or grain-free rations, and that resolves the problem. Gluten-free resolves skin problems also. There's a lot of grain in most dry dog foods. Like humans, dogs evolved eating meat, not grain.

surprisingly - no D for Gio (Cavalier)......Although when I had that C-diff I question if he had that too at that time. He pooped all over Texas!

One of his eyes has a blue circle in it and he has a discharge from both. I have been doing my own home treatment right now (saline rinses) and dodging the Vet calls. It's just not in the cards right now.

I really am excited to order that Magnesium spray today. My only concern is that it sits outside (Minnesota - 2 degrees) while I am at work and then the stuff is ruined. Gotta think that through before I place the order.......

might go snoop around Walgreens today.
