alternative sources for vegetable protein

The father of Medicine, Hippocrates, said, “Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.” This discussion contains information found by some members to be helpful for controlling the symptoms of microscopic colitis, by diet alone, or in conjunction with certain medications.

alternative sources for vegetable protein

Post by Sherryann »

Good morning, MC family,

I really would like to stop eating animal protein, and am wondering about alternative sources for vegetable protein. What's worked for folks? What's not?

Any thoughts from this wonderful MC family are welcomed with open arms and gratitude.

Thank you,
Sherry

Hi Sherry,

That all hinges on whether or not you're sensitive to soy, because with wheat off the table, the only significant protein sources in the plant kingdom are beans, peas, and other legumes. If you're sensitive to soy, you're very likely to be sensitive to most, if not all, legumes. Some folks eat fish and/or shellfish, but of course those aren't vegetable protein. If you happen to be one of the lucky few, you may not be sensitive to soy, and of course that would give you a lot of options. EnteroLab offers a set of vegetarian test panels that might helo you with making selections. I believe they're the B2 and C2 panels.

I hope this helps.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks, Tex, for info.

I am unable to eat any of these veggie proteins, and will stick with animal protein.

Smiles on your day ~
