Hi Everyone,
I see a number of ideas about supportive diets for MC here. Actually they sound pretty similar to Gaps and SCD principles. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet was specifically designed for inflammatory bowel diseases. Has anyone used one of these diets for their MC with success? I've done GAPs before and am currently starting on SCD. SCD, similar to what I've read here, starts with a few foods unlikely to cause an immune reaction and builds from there. (I suppose I should mention, this is SCD without egg whites, or fermented dairy). Anyway, any feedback on these diets?
Thanks,

Hi Mschris,
I think ultimately there is no one-size-fits-all diet for Microscopic colitis, with it’s tricky autoimmune components. I’ve looked into these diets ages ago when I was reacting and they allow foods that I would not have been able to tolerate. By the time I eliminated those foods then my diet no longer resembled the SCD or GAPS original plans. I ended up keeping red potatoes and white rice in my diet because I was eating so few foods. I reached remission in a little over 2 years.
Now that I am in remission and my diet is more broad, I do check SCD, GAPS and Paleo sites for recipes I can use when I need ideas. But the bottom line for me was to individualize my own plan based on my intolerances.

Thanks Carol,
You know I was thinking of taking elements from both diets and creating a base of safe, very well cooked foods (just a few) and then experimenting to see what I could very slowly add. I think the general advice I've gotten from here of eating less common foods, (e.g. duck, lamb instead of beef and chicken) is sound. In fact, I was using a hydrobeef protein isolate for a semi-elemental diet (instead of whey which I thought might provoke a reaction) for way too long and ended up causing an intolerance to beef! Live and learn.
Thanks again for your two cents.

Take a look at the June 2018 MC newsletter that covered the SCD, Paleo, AIP and FODMAP diets for MC.
