Hi Tommyboy,
Thanks for your encouraging message. I was also on NSAIDS (Advil) every day for years with back pain and was told that could have started the LC. I don't take it anymore I take Tylenol if I am in pain. I am glad the Budesonide worked for you that wasn't my experience. I will look into the Enterolab testing to get a handle on what I can tolerate. I will definitely update the group on my progress. This seems like a very caring site and you and other members have giving me hope that I will get through this "One day at a time"
Enjoy your day!

Welcome Miley,
You've gotten some good suggested guidance. My two cents worth would be to be as basic as you can in the food dept right now....when you are hungry eat lots of protein basic meat (turkey, lamb, wild game), basic veggie (carrot, yellow/red potato, broccoli, cauliflower), basic starch (white rice (brown rice has too much fiber, and fiber scratches the lining of the intestine for us), liquid (water, coffee, nut milks).
Need to be Low sugar at this point.
No Gluten (wheat, barely, rye, malt) - this is for life now.
No Dairy - Casein protein is what we react to and this pretty much is for life, a few can have a tiny amount after a long healing process.
No Eggs - at least until you know if you react to them and that will take until you no longer have water D or explosive D, or until you do the Enterolab testing.
No Soy - most of us react to this so in the beginning it is just best to stay away from it until you can safely try to bring it back into your diet, unless you do the Enterolab testing and it confirms that you are reacting to it.
No Artificial sweeteners - stevia might be ok.
Gabe's first stage plan is a really great place to begin, and a diagnosis of MC/LC/CC is a life changer, but I feel so much better now and I did it without meds. There was a stage in the process where Cholestyramine helped but that was after I got the D under a little better control, but I would research this as a potential area down the road. It is a natural product, will not hurt you and you won't become addicted to it. It ultimately treats BAM (bile acid malabsorption).
If you haven't read Tex's book (upper right hand corner of this forum site) I highly suggest you do as it will answer a plethora of questions you may have.
If you are taking any type of vitamins please stop.....they have too many ingredients, you'll want to pare it back to VitD3 and Elemental Magnesium Glycinate. Those will be your building blocks to lay the foundation to getting this Colitis on a healing track. You will eventually add B vitamins, and VitC but that will be when you are feeling better.
Patience not Perfection is the new motto with this disease, but it can heal and we do get our lives back
Ask anything!

Hi, I've been on 1 tsp Psyllium, Reguloid (metamusal), mornings and evening; which bulks stool to pencil/cigar size or straight watery, explosive diarrea with out. I doc with VA, who of course refuse to refer or order lab work from Enterolab. So all I can suggest for a little relief from all out mayhem. This site is a god send!
Hi Erica,
Thanks so much for taking the time to give me all these suggestions. I really appreciate it! I have cut out all gluten and dairy out except for an occasional egg but I have stopped eating that also. I was eating rice crackers that had soy in them but I will stop that. I will stop taking vitamins also. I have read Gabe's first stage plan and will stick to it.
You mentioned Tex's book which I am not familiar with. I did order the Microscopic colitis book written by Wayne Persky and have been reading it. It is very informative and that is how I got the information on this forum. If there is another book on this site please let me know, I couldn't find it.
I also ordered the kit from Enterolabs and should get it by Friday. Although expensive I feel it will help me a lot. I am doing better with the D since I have changed my diet.
Thanks so much for the great advice and the positive motto. I feel I am truly blessed to find this great site with such supportive people like yourself.
I will keep you updated on my progress!

Hi Miley,
You have the book then ;-) Wayne's nickname is Tex on this site I'm glad you got the enterolab ordered, it cuts a lot out right up front, no messing around! He also has a couple of other ebooks so when you are ready perhaps address him directly as to how to get ahold of them as well.
Prairieed if the Psyllium is working for you then great....but at the same time fiber that bulks our stools actually ends up doing more harm than good by scraping the inner lining of the intestine and keeps it in a continual inflamed state and healing will take even that much longer to be reached. Healing has a basic beginning as I laid out for Miley anything beyond that lengthens the healing period unfortunately. The Enterolab test is a quicker way to answers but if it isn't in the pocket book to order on your own from the website, then a food diary is where MC/LC/CC needs to begin.
Gabes first stage healing plan is well structured, she put her heart and soul into its many aspects of how it needs to be approached. Good luck in everyones healing
