Medication Combinations

Post by Jem »

Hi Everyone,

First post, I am looking for some information on medications and interactions with other medications.

Backround: I have PBC, an autoimmune disease that destroys the bile duct of the liver and I am taking Ursodiol to try to slow the progression of this disease. I also have autoimmune hepatitis
and now I have MC with has piggy backed on my other autoimmune issues! Not fun!!
I don't seem to have the rampant diarrhea, but I do have the pain, bloating gas, and stools that are the consistency of pudding(sorry for that descriptor!!) the pain and frequent trips to the bathroom are causing me to take off time from work, that I cannot continue to do.

My question is, does anyone know of any interaction with ursodiol, budesonide, losartan(blood pressure pill) metformin and taking a over the counter antihistamine? I was reading on the board about taking an antihistamine and I picked up the Walgreens brand of Claritin, I am having alot of pain from the inflammation and would like to try it. The pharmacist said there is no interaction, but I feel he was kind of rushed and just would like anther opinion.

Also, I just started to up my Vit D and ordered some magnesium.

Thanks,
Jem

Hi Jem,

Welcome to the group. I'm certainly not an authority on those medications, but I'm not aware of any significant interactions in general. That said, we're all different, so it's certainly not uncommon for many drugs to have differing effects on us. We have to listen to our bodies. If something doesn't seem right, it probably isn't.

Most of us have other autoimmune diseases. The inflammation that causes MC, opens the door to other antoimmune diseases that may be continue to be developed until the inflammation is brought under control. Usually, if we can stop the inflammation that perpetuates MC, no more autoimmune diseases will develop in the future.

Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
