i'm tapered off budesonide. I started on 3 a day September 2018,dropped to 2 a day Dec. 2018, seemed quite ready to go to 1 a day in Feb, 2019, 1 every other day April, then every 3rd day May, finished end of May. Not sure what I accomplished other than an extreme worsening of my osteoporosis, 3 compression fractures, one quite bad, had a kyphoplasty on it. It appears that the budesonide did really cause these problems. Saw an endocrinologist who wanted to put me on either Forteo, Tymlos or Reclast. Rejecting all 3 was the result of my extended research on efficacy and side effects.

I'm currently not on calcium supplements, but think one of the algae ones sound better than traditional (citrate, etc.). I've improved my intake of calcium rich veggies, started juicing, within a week or so of consuming 8-12 oz of juice a day lapsed into serious D which over a week later is still fairly bad. There is theoretically little or no fiber remaining after juicing, but my system couldn't handle it anyway. (I, of all people, should have known better!)

I decided to try an Integrated Doctor after hearing a presentation at a club I belong to. He's put me on an anti inflammatory diet, basically no carbs, lots of veggies, protein 3 times a day. small amounts of fruit. He has a very good reputation, understands leaky gut, etc. like no GI I've ever visited has. BUT, in about a month he's recommending a Liver/Gallbladder Flush. It takes about a week and I'm quite concerned after reading all the negative comments on the internet. Has anyone in our group ever done this?

I'd really appreciate input from anyone who can share any information with me.

Short post as I'm catching a flight tomorrow.

What is the Liver/Gallbladder Flush supposed to achieve? I'd be inclined to skip it. The low inflammation diet is good for bone
health.

It has some controversy although your integrative doctor should be familiar with it.

I'm getting all of my calcium from fortified almond milk and a bit from veggies.

I also like Dr. Keith McCormick's book on bone health. He is a chiropractor who was fracturing in his 40's. Sorry I can't
remember the name.

Hi, Brandy, thanks so much for your response. You are catching a plane today so might not see this, but just checked my library and they have that McCormick book so placed a hold on it. I've seen reference to strontium citrate and in fact, plan to buy some. I've been calculating the amount of calcium I can get from food--mostly veggies that are high, and it is difficult to get more than 300 mg a day. That's why I tried the juicing--you can easily get another 300 mg in 12 oz by using high calcium veggies such as Kale. Since 1200 mg is the desired goal, am thinking about supplementing with about 500 mg + strontium. I've read that fortified food usually doesn't have the best quality calcium in it so absorption isn't great. I'm thinking about a plant based calcium such as algaecal. I've been going crazy trying to find a suitable one--if they don't contain soy, well then there's wheat. May end up with the name brand algaecal since it seems to be free of everything I can't tolerate. I'd only take half of their recommendation since I'm getting so much from food. I noticed that Lara Pizzorno, author of Your Bones, is their "resident expert" on their website. Interesting!

Also, read a lot about acid/alkaline effect on bones, so am trying to do that also.

As for what my Dr. wants to achieve with the cleanse, that's a good question! I have a list of questions for my next visit.
