Pre-Employment Physical Question
Hello. I'm thinking about accepting a new position. On the physical form under "significant medical conditions", gastrointestinal disorder is listed. Does a prospective employer need to know that I have LC? I would never falsify anything, but I struggle with sharing personal information like this. My LC does not affect my work as I rarely have any issues with it. If "yes" is checked, there is a line for an explanation. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Hi Marcia,
Have you had a colonoscopy lately? If you are in remission and were diagnosed a few years ago, chances are excellent that you no longer have the LC markers. We all know that LC is forever in terms of what we have to do to maintain remission, but if the LC markers no longer show up on a colonoscopy, I see no reason to say you have it. Just my opinion.
Love,
Kari

Hi, Kari. I was due for a colonoscopy in September which was 5 years after my diagnosis, but I didn't schedule it because I was afraid the prep would cause issues for me and I'm doing so well. The LC won't affect my job performance so I don't see their need to know. Thanks for your input.

Hi Marcia,
I agree. If you've been in remission this long, you're very likely well healed by now. If you don't have any symptoms, it's under control. I also agree that the prep required before a colonoscopy could re-inflame your intestines.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
