Gall Bladder removed in 2000

Post by dolson »

What was suppose to be a simple cholecystectomy, turned out to take three hours and my gall bladder was tangled with adhesions.

I get off subject and become long-winded, so I am going to keep it short and simple. So here goes. Could my problem with Microscopic Colitis be aggravated by my complicated cholecystectomy, I had in Sunbury, PA? I had an excellent doctor. I am doing well, thanks to all of y'all, especially Tex and Gabes, but sometimes MC rears it head and I have watery D. I stay on my diet and try to be a good girl.I read where you stated there is a drug you can take for gall bladder removal and problems with bile. Could that be part of my problem? Should I take the drug you stated for gall bladder removal, Tex? Thanks, Dorothy

Hi Dorothy,

It's possible that it could be a large part of your problem. Research shows that about 40 % of cases of persistent diarrhea are due to bile aid malabsorption (BAM). Cholestyramine seems to be effective for quite a few cases that don't respond to normal treatment. But if you try it, use the original formulation by Sandoz. Members here have had much better luck with that than any other type. The "Lite" versions, especially, seem to be pretty much ineffective. You'll have to experiment with the dose, to find what works best for your particular situation.

I have heard of people taking ox bile after having their gallbladder removed.

More sick than ever

Post by dolson »

I have gotten worse. I keep on my diet but my diarrhea has increased and it's non-stop watery diarrhea that never goes away! Imodium does nothing to stop it. When it starts, it never goes away! I am sick all the time and have lost weight. I look in the mirror and I look weak. The weight loss is not extreme because I eat! Lots of healthy meat, no gluten anything, and well-cooked veggies and fruit that does not make me sick. It doesn't matter, I still become sick with watery diarrhea and plenty of accidents. I don't leave the house and can't attend church. I become brain-fogged and can't have a conversation with church members. I decided something else was at play besides Microscopic Colitis. I remember reading about Gall bladder problems and decided that could be the culprit. I was going to private email Gabes, but y'all stated to contact Polly. I don't have her email. Do y'all have it? I gotta stop this non-stop madness. Thanks Tex,DeeDee and Janie!!!!! Dorothy

Hi Dorothy,

Sorry to hear that you're still in a flare. If you look at the bottom of every post, there's a series of "buttons". The last one is usually labeled "email". That's a link to the poster's email address. In other words, if you go to one of Polly's past posts and click on the email button, the system will open a window where you can compose an email that will be addressed to Polly, and then you can send it by clicking on the "send" button.

Here's a link where you can find five of her old posts:

Hi dolson,

I have MC and had my Gallbladder out in 2015. Had constipation issues on and off..never D till now. I was eating fattier foods again...bad! And it's hard to tell if it's an MC attack for me or lack of GB. I've been in remission from MC since 2013. Lack of bile is what caused me the constipation...what I did was I started eating things to increase bile flow...which unfortunately are healthy foods which I believe has caused this D to happen again as my bile flow has sped up and continuously going into my intestines. Luckily Pepto helps me.

If you are on FB you can join a gallbladder group if there is one. I know some have taken Welchol for bile acid D or you can try some Calcium Carbonate. Not a fan of CC since it lowers acid in your stomach but it is what it is and if it works, it works. I hope you can find relief soon.

I wonder if there is a way to tell if it's MC D or bile D? I never thought I would be in this situation. Lack of GB and MC is not a good combo to have.

I hope you can get it under control.
