Quercetin

Post by bubba »

I'm wondering if anybody has tried or considered Quercetin to help with the inflammation of Collagenous Colitis? Quercetin can also sometimes be used as a natural antihistamine as well, so possibly helpful?
Thank you,
Cathy

My cousin was taking Quercetin at the recommendation of her Naturopath and she suggested that I take it when I was first began the journey to heal my gut. It caused stomach pain for me so I didn't take it very long. I don't have CC, I have LC.

Hi Marcia,
Thanks for your response. I have taken Quercetin for seasonal allergies, so I know I can tolerate it...unless things have changed. I think I will give it a try. Sorry it caused you stomach pain. I have read that it can for some people.

I tried Quercetin for allergies last winter. I have Sjogrens and can’t tolerate antihistamines. My MC is in remission and I’m pretty careful about what I ingest. Quercetin didn’t help much with my allergies and gave me some abdominal pain. I decided to have immune therapy for the allergies and that has worked well.

Sheila,
Just wanted to find out what the immune therapy is that you speak of. My MC stays in remission as long as I take daily zyrtec. I came off of it several weeks ago and found that my histamine intolerance seems to be worse now. I am trying to find alternatives to zyrtec. The pollen level has actually lowered in my area, but I am still having major symptoms even while adjusting my diet to less histamine foods. I actually bought some quercetin, but have not tried it yet. I am trying to get enough courage to try it. It is in powder form....

Thank you!

Hi Martha,
I also took Zyrtec for years in aid of MC primarily. I stopped taking it because of my Sjogrens diagnosis. Sjögren's caused an extreme reaction to lower level allergy responses. I was tested for about 100 allergens by an allergist and I’m receiving minute doses of those allergens I reacted to in order to build up immunity, typical allergy “shots”. The shots are helping with the severe eye itching and swelling and sneezes aren’t as frequent. Because I have histamine issues, I’m stuck with a constantly runny nose and post nasal drip.
Allergies were much better when I was taking Zyrtec and the histamine issues were also improved. Quercetin didn’t help my allergies at all. I took Quercetin capsules, don’t remember the dosage. I’m in MC remission but live in dread of a relapse. I didn’t have D with Quercetin but it did upset my stomach.
I hope you find something to help with the histamine issues.

Thank you Sheila for your quick response. I put a teaspoon of the quercetin in my coffee this am. We shall see what happens. I wound up taking an antihistamine last night due to itching and constant gas/rumbling gut due to some chicken that I ate. Its amazing to me how it goes away within an hour after taking the antihistamine. I just wished I could get a handle on it without using those meds and figure out what my body needs. I start back to work tomorrow and am hopeful with routine that I can manage my diet better.

I took it for something else. One thing I found if anyone wants more info is this: https://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supp ... nd-risks#2

Also I spent a lot of time researching it. Many companies are unwilling to tell you the source (and I vaguely recall that makes a difference). It's funny, the supplement companies don't want to tell for fear that their competition will find out. And customers suffer. Anyways, this is what I ended up using: Swanson Premium Quercetin & Bromelain

I didn't help me. But if anyone feels its helpful for mc then I'd suggest my wife uses it is she relapses.
