Cyclone Larry
Well our first real cyclone for the season, in fact for some years is hitting Nth Queensland. They reckon that it is a category 5, stronger even that Cyclone Tracey that flattened Darwin in 1974. It is expected to cross the coast in about an hour. Many buildings have already been devasted & I believe people are trapped beneath the debris. All of the Whitsunday Islands have been evacuated as are low lying areas near the coast. It is situated about 1,000 K's north of here & is not expected to travel any further south but you can never tell with these storms. It also covers a huge area.

Sometimes they can travel down the coast but in this instance it went straight in a westerly direction.

Hi Oma. Stay safe. I hope you are not in any danger with that tornado. The cyclone has crossed the coast & has weakened a little to a category 3 but is now effecting inland areas & is still doing damage. Flood is one of the biggest worries now. We are OK down our way. There is another low out towards Vanuatu that may also develop into a tropical cyclone so fingers crossed. I bit late coming but certainly making a mark. We need the rain that these storms bring but not in excess & certainly not the severe damaging winds.
Barb, we used to get at least one cyclone per season but for the last few years it has been a bit erratic. There have been some doozies over thr years. Most of them hit land further north & we just get a bit of side effect but at times they have come down this far & even further than Brisbane

Liz,
One of the reasons I checked in here was to check on Oma, Tex, and you because I heard about the cyclone on the news. We are also going to get the storm that Oma mentioned when it heads toward the Gulf of Mexico where Houston is located. Danger of hail and tornados, and of course, always winds and thunder and lightening.
Take care.
Yours, Luce
