Flu Shot and Shringx
Should I get the flu shot and shringx shot. I am still on budesonide. Have been GF,DF,SF, for seven months.
Hi Rudi,
I see that no one has responded to your question, so I'll take a stab at it. As long as you're not having a histamine problem, it should be safe to take the flu shot. If you've been on budesonide that long, you should be less likely to have histamine problems. On the other hand, since longer use of budesonide can suppress the immune system, the vaccine probably will not work as effectively as it is claimed. I'm sure your doctor will tell you to go ahead and get the shot anyway, because most of them don't understand MC and they tend to ignore the effects of budesonide on their patients.

Tex,
Thanks for the response. I am due the shots next month. Just had a bad flare last night and I am wondering why. Nothing I ate I had not had before. When you say histamine problem do you mean allergies. I have
not had any kind of sneezing, or itching when I eat certain things. I cannot take histamines because of high blood pressure. I was hoping to be off the budesonide, but every time I try to taper, I flare, and yesterday
was extremely bad, and now my doctor wants me to up the dosage, which I do not want to do. Thanks for listening.

Yes allergic reactions are caused by histamines, released by mast cells.
Budeonide increases blood presssure. But I'm sure your doctor knows that, or at least he or she should be aware of it.

I have been one who has always taken the flu shot (for years and years and years), but when I was diagnosed back in 2015, I chose not to take it because of the egg sensitivity. I also have just chosen not to put anything foreign and poisonous in my system anymore. I have done really well without it. I swear by my essential oils and I use my diffuser at my desk. I'm a teacher so I've been exposed to everything and I've had the flu one time in 4 years and my husband brought it home. It took me awhile to get over it, but that's just something I've chosen for me.

I don't get it, either. The last time I got it (before the LC) I felt so "weird" that I said I was never going to get it again. I can only describe it as feeling flushed and mean.

I'm not familiar with that shot, but since you're still recovering, canned fruit is best for MC patients, unless you peel and cook the fresh fruit.

Tex, that's the shingles vaccine. I just read to expect harsher side effects from it. Article said 1 in 6 get sick from it, enough that they can't carry out normal activities.

Thanks Marcia,
That shows how well I keep up with vaccines. My doctor brought up getting a shingles vaccination at my last appointment, a couple of months ago. In fact, he brings it up at most appointments. I might have caved in and agreed, but luckily he forgot about it by the end of the appointment, so I got away unscathed again. I apparently distracted him when I told him how well I was doing with magnesium threonate, and it caught his interest and he forgot about the vaccine.
Thanks for the information on it. Now I'll have an excuse next time.

Hi Rudi,
Paul Here,
I've had shingles before (mild case) but even that was definitely NO FUN! If you ever had chicken pox as a child, the shingles virus is already in your system and just waits years to come out and get you. True, most people who had chicken pox, don't ever get shingles. But, personally, I think the risk of being a little sick for a couple of days is worth it. I had no side effects from the shingles shot.

I would be skeptical of rotissierie chicken. It can have hidden ingredients that might not be listed. For example, sometimes it just says chicken broth, but what is in the chicken broth? It could be anything or soy or something else. I cook my own chickens. That way I know for sure it's safe. If it made you really sick, there was something in there that your body didn't like!
