Clear Diarrhea Anyone????

Post by Booker »

So I have had clear diarrhea going on 3 weeks now. By clear I mean CLEAR like spit and bubbles. *Sorry to be so graphic* This is freaking me out enough to ask the forum. Is this due to malabsorption? I was just diagnosed with MC the beginning of July. Is this serious? Should I call my doctor. I just don't know what's normal with MC and what's not. Any help or insight would be appreciated.
Also I have cut out Gluten, Dairy, Soy, Yeast, Oats...the list goes on but that's the main.

Hi,

Yes that's typical of MC. It's MC's claim to fame. That's known as secretory diarrhea. Secretory diarrhea's high volume is caused by the fact that electrolytes and water are being infused into the colon. Normally, the colon removes and recycles electrolytes and water. The greatest threat is dehydration, and it can be life-threatening if not continually counteracted by adequate replenishment of water and electrolytes. If you've made those changes to your diet, you are on your way to recovery (believe it or not). It just takes a little time to stop the inflammation and begin healing. Hang in there. Most of us have been through that phase, so we understand what you're going through.

Your doctor can call in a prescription for budesonide (to your pharmacy) if you want to try to stop it sooner.

Thank you Tex!
I was not looking forward to calling my Doctor and describing to the receptionist what I was experiencing to figure out if I was having organ failure or not! The head goes to crazy places when the body isn't behaving. The only thing I want to add is I don't have heavy volume. Quite the opposite. It took me 3 days to get barely a cup of specimen for EnteroLab and now I'm wondering if it's really going to be a quality or real specimen they can work with. I guess they will let me know. I hope to get results back next week.

Hi Booker-
You’ve come to the right place to describe all the various strange things our gut can produce. Yet the body is amazing and manages to find a way to work itself toward ‘normal’. Like Tex said- keep your electrolytes up and stay hydrated. You are dealing with a lot of inflammation right now.

It took me a full week to get a decent sample for the Enterolab tests. I’m guessing that Enterolab is used to dealing with all variations and deviations. Chances are it’s not healthy people that are mailing their samples in.

I did take Budesonide for 4 1/2 months, mainly because I needed to work and was trying to get back on my feet. If you choose to do that you’ll find good advice here about when and how to titrate down.

You’ve made good decisions adjusting your diet and you’ll get more insights when your Enterolab results come back. You are giving yourself the best care possible and are on the path to improvement. It’s just a rocky road in the beginning.

Best wishes,
Carol

I'm in the US and currently I'm not taking Magnesium or Vitamin D. Well I was taking Vitamin D until I read on there the company added Soy to it UGH. I want to take both, but i'm not sure what brand to go with. I'm on Budesonide already. Also one more question. I don't drink anything other than water. Is it safe to drink water with added electrolytes? Smart Water etc? I have been to afraid to drink anything but water. Gatorade looks like it would have natural or artificial flavors added. Any process that uses Yeast to pull out flavors makes me sick so I just stick to water and I'm not the best water drinker. I like it it just fine, it's just that i'm one of those people that's never thirsty.

Yes, water with electrolytes added should be fine, unless the ingredient list includes something that causes you to react.

Many of us take Doctors Best brand of magnesium, and also vitamin D, but there are other safe brands.

I use the Doctor's Best magnesium, but I've been buying Blue Bonnet Vitamin D. It's allergen free, and I've done really well with it!
