Please tell what happened to the lady and the masked men....how scarey that sounds. We got a couple inches rain. Lots of thunder and the tornado watch expired and it was sunny today. Love Oma
May I be more compassionate and loving than yeterday*and be able to spot the idiots in advance
Hi Oma,
Glad to see you are ok, and GOT SOME RAIN!!!! Turns out most of the stormy part was north of I-10, but we did manage to get A LITTLE rain this morning.
Don't remember how much I posted last night, but the lady was coming home to her drive way on the corner, one street over, about dusk, when two men dressed in ski masks approached her car with a gun. She thought she could back up and evade them, but they shot through the car, hitting her in the shoulder..forget how many bullet wounds.
Anyway, she was able to drive herself to the hospital and call her hubby in spite of her injuries. The two guys took off, and I've not heard anymore from an official source as yet.
Did hear from a neighbor that the woman's hubby was inside the house at the time, so think she may have been trying to protect him when she backed up. Heck, probably trying to protect herself as well! Think the neighbor said that the husband was inside searching for his gun.
We have this neat system here, run by a neighbor for this section. For the people who sign up for it, we are e-mailed any description and M.O. of any crimes or suspicious behavior, including the types of cars they drive, and the exact location where any of these things are observed or happen.
This way, we all know who to look for, and can report anything we see directly to our Constables (who are always nearby) or to the HPD.
One thing that will really scare off thieves is whenever anyone is going door to door here (it's prohibited), we can call, and an officer will come by and ask to see their ID. After they are ID'd, there's no way they'll carry out their plans to rob, etc., in this neighborhood.
Also, if someone spots a known thief before he's broken in someplace, the police will be right behind him, and catch him in the act.
It's amazing how well our system works, but you can't prevent random acts like the shooting on the corner, for instance. We almost never have violent crime in this area, but we have had some close calls. I think I would've assumed these two guys were a little more dangerous due to the masks to conceal their identity, and after the fact, the fact that they fired those guns before running probably was an attempt to make sure there were no witnesses. Good thing they didn't follow the woman and finish the job, but guess they were afraid, by then, they'd already attracted some attention from a potential witness or two.
Think it helps to not be on a corner nor a through street, but some of these characters like to follow people home, and trap them where they can't get out if streets don't go through. There are other ways to trap cars. I never take a straight path home, just so that I will have time to be aware of anyone following me, and be able to lead them straight to the police substation not far from here.
OK, now that I've scared you...
Glad you're ok, Oma. I'm just going to have to be sort of hit and miss on the board lately due to circumstances now, but I'll be thinking of you!
Yours, Luce

It sounds like a good plan tho. It's amazing the woman wasn't killed. That is so scarey anymore. I usuall carry a 9mm and /or a 22. The 22. fits in my back pocket. Mu License to carry a concealed weapon needs to be re-done. We still carry on our land because of the snakes when they are out. We also have wild boar and I don't care to have one charge me with a pistol pointed at him. ANyway thanks for the story, it was sad that she was hurt but very interesting how your community works. Love Oma
