Malabsorption is not 100%, it is only partial. Depending on the severity of your malabsorption, you will still be able to able to absorb most of the nutrients in your food. The difference is that you will be sick if you eat gluten and the malabsorption will become worse. If you avoid gluten, the malabaorption problem will slowly heal.

Why do you want belly fat? Belly fat is very unhealthy and leads to metabolic syndrome, which can predispose to diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular issues.

I know that my question is strange! before I had the fat in my abdomen and a bit of muscle on my body as I reduced carbohydrates, dairy products and starches I lost a lot! I wanted to lose the belly and the handles of love because I had the only fat there! now I lost a bit of fat but also those few muscles! THEREFORE I wondered if this fat was given by a partial absorption of carbohydrates (so also the gluten to think that I do not have a total intolerance). I was wondering if I eat American potatoes avoiding the bread dough rice if I can regain weight for a bit of body fat and muscles! I did the blood tests and B vitamins folic acid are low :(

Ares,

Its not just the diet that is causing you to lose weight. The inflammation and malabsorption is also causing you to lose weight. Many of us lose weight after we develop MC. But after we change our diet to stop the inflammation and our intestines begin to heal, then we are once again able to gain weight. You will be able to gain weight also, after your intestines begin to heal. Yes, most of us are able to eat potatoes.

Note that a folic acid deficiency can cause weight loss. Your folic acid deficiency may be part of the reason why you are losing weight. Correcting the deficiency may help you to gain weight.

and the body needs animal protein to build muscle, repair muscle. muscle is much healthier than body fat.

thanks you always have encouraging words! the problem is that I have no improvement! I tried all the carbohydrates but everyone has starch and the starch makes me gas so much gas! potatoes rice pasta bread corn :( even the zucchini! and the glycogen present in carbohydrates is important for the muscles! I eat chicken slices and zucchini but and a poor diet I use coconut oil and olive oil but I do not know what other fats eat the fruit dry makes me gas! in addition to histamine! and constipation multiplies the gas!

Hi Ingrid,

Have you tried cholestyramine? Or pepto bismol. Pepto bismol might go by a different name
in your country. Both drugs also can help us.

Can you eat rice, potato and/or sweet potato to put on weight?

Those are good suggestions by Brandy.

Be sure that olive oil is not a brand that might be diluted with soy bean oil. If you feel good, sleep good, have a lot of energy, and no neck pain, those are good signs that you're making progress. Do you react to rice, potatoes or sweet potatoes? Avocados are safe for most of us and they provide a lot of calories.

Hi Connie,

My last email from her was in early April. She apologized for not participating in discussions, and blamed her limited time on a new job that was keeping her extra busy. But she also mentioned that she was concerned about her lichen sclerosus (which she's had for a number of years), and she was waiting for some biopsy results. I'm concerned, because LS can increase the risk of cancer. I certainly hope that the biopsies were OK, and she's just extra-busy. But I haven't heard from her since early April, and she didn't respond to an email I sent a couple of weeks ago.

That's all I know.

Love,

Tex
