Could my CC be a sluggish gallbladder?

Could my CC be a sluggish gallbladder?

Post by Lilja »

Hi all,

I haven't been on the board for a very long time. Partly because I have been feeling quite well, and partly because there has not been much to tell.

I hope this is not "cursing in the church", but I joined The Root Cause Protocol two years ago, and it has helped me build up my body which was drained of important nutrients, after 9 years on the "potty".

In the magnesium protocol, we are supposed to supplement with Taurine. I have been hesitating and not willing to start taking Taurine, for some odd reason. As the last step into the protocol, I introduced Taurine 10 days ago. Lo and behold! I'm down to 1 trip in the morning; and the "texture" is firm and not loose any more!

Could it be that the Collagenous Colitis diagnosis I got 10 years ago, in fact was a bad functioning gallbladder?

I remember that another Norwegian member, Tor, some years ago speculated about his own colitis, and found that Colestyramine (or was it Questran?) had helped him. I cannot find his posts, but would like to hear if some of you have experienced anything like this?

Hi Lilja,

It's good to see a post from you again, and good to see that you've been doing so well. Regarding your CC diagnosis: the criteria for diagnosing MC (including CC and LC) are so specific that it's virtually impossible to diagnose one of them if the disease is not present. Only a complete fool could misdiagnose MC. On the other hand, it's extremely easy to overlook MC and fail to diagnose it. Consequently, it's often missed, but never misdiagnosed in the real world.

Gallbladder problems are very common among MC patients, because many internal organs become inflamed when MC is active, including the gallbladder, pancreas, both large ad small bowel, stomach, esophagus, and even the mucosal lining of the mouth. Many MC patients have their gallbladder removed unnecessarily — once the inflammation of MC in the intestines is controlled, all the inflammation in all the other organs resolves also.

If you do a search of the archives, you'll find that many members here have used cholestyramine to resolve their MC symptoms when it didn't respond to dietary treatment. Cholestyramine treats bile acid malabsorption (BAM). According to published research, about 40 % of people who have "unresponsive " diarrhea that can't be attributed to any other known medical condition have BAM.

Taurine helps to build protein, and the best food sources are meat and fish. If supplementing with it helps your bowel movements, you might have some sort of chemical imbalance or methylation problem. Many of us have methyltion issues (due to a defective MTHFR gene) and we have to take the active form of vitamins, especially the "B" vitamins.

I hope you continue to do well.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
