Should we be using topical magnesium rather than tablets before we reach remission? I am a little confused and need to know if I should eliminate the oral magnesium for now. I am taking 400mg a day. I am trying to eliminate anything that might be causing me inflammation. I've eliminated almost everything and am now down to oral magnesium and sleepytime tea.
Thank you for your time.

Hi,
Oral magnesium won't cause any inflammation, but it can contribute to diarrhea for some of us, especially if we're taking larger amounts or certain types (some types are much more likely to act as a laxative). 400 mg sholdn't be a problem for anyone after they're in remission, but it might possibly contribute to diarrhea while we're still recovering. Some people are so sensitive that they even react to topically-applied magnesium. We're all different.
Be careful with tea. Some contain ingredients that some of us can't tolerate. Others are fine after we're in remission, but can be a problem during recovery.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hello. Magnesium glycinate is tolerated by most. Magnesium oxide as well as some others can cause diarrhea. I take Doctor's Best magnesium glycinate, which I learned from the group on here.
