Thanks Tex, and what about casein, eggs and soy, since I have been eliminating them from my diet

If you've been avoiding them for a year, they will probably show false negative results, but that will depend on how sensitive your immune system is toward those antigens at this point.

Tex, Would it be beneficial to do the Enterolab testing if I’m not in a flare? I have been controlling my LC with diet and no drugs. I have been in remission sine early July.land want to continue on this path by avoiding trigger foods.

Unless you still have some symptoms (except for fatigue and brain fog — they can take a year or two to resolve) there probably wouldn't be much to gain by testing at this point. IOW, I would probably just pass on the tests, if I were in your situation, and I would continue to do what I was doing.

I am considering taking the EnteroLab test again as well to see if anything has changed, but I am not seeing the "Holiday Specials" section. I logged in but I don't see it anywhere. Is it located in the "Test Pricing & Information" blue link bar on the left? Or is it in another section on the Home screen?

Hi Sarah,
I just checked and it’s still there. Go to their menu, to ‘Client/Patient Log-in/order test’ and click on that. The next page that comes up should ask you for registration information. It was after I registered that I was able to view the Holiday Specials.

Carol,

I'm doing pretty well overall, but, like you, I still suffer with inexplicable "bad days". Acceptance of this reality, as something I may always have to live with, is high on my priority list. Unfortunately, this decease still takes up a lot of my mental and physical energy. Having to cook all my food is difficult for me to accept, but I know that it's the only way to have some semblance of "normal" stool, along with keeping a lid on the other issues that come along with a weak digestive system.

All of this is to say that I'm so curious about how your Enterolab test results come in. I hope you will be able to ferret out what seems to be bothering you. As you may remember, my latest test results showed reaction to all grains, and eliminating them has made a difference. Like me, you've been at this for a long time, and deserve a break, so I am rooting for you:).

Love,
Kari

Hi Kari- they came back today. Some things I expected but a high fecal fat malabsorption number was not one of them!

Here’s the results:

Quantitative Microscopic Fecal Fat Score 1112 Units (Normal Range is less than 300 Units) 😧

Fecal Anti-gliadin IgA 27 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)😯

Fecal Anti-casein (cow’s milk) IgA 11 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)😐

Fecal Anti-ovalbumin (chicken egg) IgA 6 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)🙂

Fecal Anti-soy IgA 10 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)☹️

Mean Value 11 Antigenic Foods 7 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)

While all of the foods tested can be immune-stimulating, the hierarchy of reactions detected were as follows:

Food to which there was no significant immunological reactivity: 💃🏼 (Happy dance).
Corn
Oat
Rice
Beef
Chicken
Pork
Almond
Walnut
Cashew
White potato

Within each class of foods to which you displayed multiple reactions, the hierarchy of those reactions detected were as follows:
Meats:
Meat toward which you displayed the most immunologic reactivity: Tuna
(I never eat tuna. 🤷🏻‍♀️). I had zero foods in the +2 and +3 categories.

Well- it’s obvious that I’m getting gluten from somewhere (probably eating out. Kansas City is a City for foodies and although I go to places where the meals are chef designed, farm to table, they can tell me the ingredients, they change gloves, etc, cross contamination can still happen).

Soy was a surprise, so I need to go back through my supplements to look for alpha tocopherols and any hidden sources. I must be missing something.

Dairy- not a surprise at all. I’ve know my sources here- primarily, milk chocolate.

Fecal fat score!!!! 😳. Wow. In my readings I see that this can be because of reduced pancreatic elastase enzyme or inflammation and damage to the small intestine. In my case..., probably both. THIS I did not see coming. So while I’m drilling down I decided to go ahead and order Enterolab’s pancreatic elastase test. I know that other digestive enzymes are very helpful to me so I could well be low on the pancreatic enzymes too.

Open to any thoughts or suggestions (and yes, I’ll need to do my own cooking more than I have been).

Carol
PS- just want to add that in spite of all this I still feel better than I have in a long time, probably because I’ve been able to address methylation issues and getting acupuncture weekly. I feel more balanced, calm and resilient.

Hi again- here is another reason to like Enterolab. Today I got an email from them saying that since my Quantitative fecal fat test result was so high, and one thing that needed to be ruled out was the pancreatic enzyme deficiency, they would perform the test for me for $99 (not the usual $159) AND I don’t have to submit another sample. 💃🏼 I jumped on it.

In addition they will cancel the pancreatic enzyme test I ordered at a higher price yesterday and refund my credit card today. They will run the test this week. Talk about a win-win!

Had to share!

Carol,

I'm so happy for you - yes, Enterolab is fabulous - really helps to narrow things down. Your food test results seem very good - you're able to eat a lot of different things with no apparent worry. Great to hear that you're doing really well in general - Yeah!!!

Wish I could chime in with advise on the high fecal fat score, but I'm pretty clueless about that issue.

Best of luck and keep us posted,

Kari

Thanks Kari- the funny thing is that I didn’t order the Fecal Fat test. It came as a ‘freebie’ with Panels A and C. I know marginally more now than I did yesterday. I figure the worse that can happen is that I’ll have to add a digestive enzyme that is specific to a pancreatic insufficiency. I’m going to have to figure out where I’m getting glutened any way, regardless of what the tests say, since there’s inflammation.
But as I said, while I’m drilling down, I may as well have them do that test too.

I don’t have any wheat flour in my house. My cookware is new and no gluten containing foods have been cooked in them. My husband does occasionally have crackers in the house which he keeps in his own cabinet and limited to his designated prep space. My dog’s food does contain wheat as do his biscuits and I’m always careful to wash my hands afterward, but I’m in that twice a day. Other than eating out, I think my exposure to gluten would be very limited.
Apparently limited is not strict enough? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Best wishes- Carol
