Larry left a real mess

Post by Liz »

Cyclone Larry has left a dreadful mess in his wake. Peoples homes & livlihood destroyed. We can forget about buying bananas, avocados & the like for a few years & the area was one of the main sugar growing areas. The whole lot flattened. Thousands of people will also be out of work as a result. Many, many people have been left with nothing. Although the government has brought in the armed forces with generators & other equipment it is going to be a collossal job to clean up & restore some sort of order. No power will be restored for at least a couple of weeks. No water or sewerage so you can imagine the health aspects. Even so, most people are pretty upbeat in their outlook. Resilient lot. There is another cyclone (category 4) off the cost, a little further south that where Larry hit but it is vertually stationary at the moment. Unpredictable things that they are, anything can happen. We have not had one come right down the coast for some years but you never know.

Love

Liz

We are Ok here at the moment Oma. The main problem we would have if the new cyclone came down the coast would be flooding I think. We are actually below sea level where we live. I feel so sorry for those poor people up there. Also know quite a few people in the area because of my travels with lawn bowls. Telephones are also out & there is no indication of when they will be up again. Prime Minister is going up there today & the Premier is there already to see what needs to be done. It is just so sad.

I'm glad you are ok Liz but feel so horrible for those who lost everything. What a nightmare for them.

Stay safe and keep checking in so we know you are ok.

Love,
Mars

Liz, I can't tell you how sorry I am that your homeland lwas hit by Larry and I surely hope he will be last visitor of that sort for many years.

I'm super glad that you weren't directly hurt by the storm but, man, I shivered when you said you are below sea level.

Take care..........
