Acupuncture - previous discussions

*** Work in Progress*****

Many members have had great results with Acupuncture.

Keep in mind that Acupuncture will not 'cure MC', it can support the body, reduce inflammation, help identify the root cause for some of the symptoms and treat it, like nausea, pain, fatigue.

There are different forms of Acupuncture, Chinese, Japanese are the main variants, and within this different treatment techniques. Treatment is isolated to needles, there are many treatment techniques such as, Acupressure, Moxa, Cupping. (one of my practitioners has done acupressure treatment on premature babies)

It is important to find a practitioner that you like, some prefer quiet traditional meditative type treatment, my practitioner was young and quite often I would be laughing during the treatment session!

Believe it or not, constipation is a symptom of chronic magnesium deficiency. I had the same problem all my life, until I discovered that I wasn't absorbing magnesium normally. I would try about 300 mg of magnesium supplement per day (divided between meals, because we can only absorb so much at any given time). There are many different types of magnesium. some are a laxative (magnesium oxide, for example), and some are much less likely to cause diarrhea. Most of us take magnesium glycinate, because it's one of the least likely to cause diarrhea for most people, and it's easy to absorb. Magnesium citrate is also absorbed well, but in higher doses, it acts as a laxative for most people.

Also, drink plenty of water. Eating fatty foods also helps to prevent constipation, but many of us can only tolerate limited amounts of fat while we're recovering, without adding to the diarrhea.

I hope this helps.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
