B12 Result From Blood Test

Post by humbird753 »

Hi everyone -

Because I take supplements, I occasionally have blood tests taken to make sure I'm in range or too low.

I've been taking Thorne Methyl Guard Plus (only one capsule a day). I just received results in the mail which says my B12 level is 1621. The reference range they show is 200 to 1100 pg/ml.

I'm going to discontinue taking Methyl Guard Plus because of this.

If anyone has any opinions on this, I would appreciate hearing them.

My blood test results also gave result of D3 at 55. 4 years ago my level was 79, so at that time I went down to 2,000 i.u. as a maintenance dose. I'm surprised it's dropped down to 55.

Hi Paula,

I can explain the high B-12 result. Your result will always show high if you are taking B-12 when you have the blood draw. You have to stop taking all B-12 supplements for about a week before the blood draw, in order to allow your body to equalize B-12 levels. There are a few old threads where this is discussed, because many of us have noticed this effect.

Tex - Thank you for your explanation of the high B12 result I got. I tried searching B12 here, but I was unable to find anything. Possibly it's the wording I use when searching

Ingrid - That's a surprisingly high level.
