This year flew by...I cannot believe we are in December already.
The first part of the year I was very busy looking at colleges with my youngest daughter. She graduated high school in May.
Also in May, our 11-year old Golden Retriever girl, a very sweet and still active therapy dog, passed away very suddenly (within 2 hours of the first symptom, on the way from the vet to the hospital, they think due to a ruptured tumor in her heart that nobody was aware of). We had planned on getting a second Golden Retriever this summer as a companion for her but she passed away three weeks before he was born. It was such a shock and so unexpected! We all miss her so much!
Our new little puppy is very high energy, very smart, and definitely keeping me on my toes. I am currently training him to become a therapy dog, too. So even though all three girls are in college now, and we are officially empty nesters, I am not bored one bit. I continue to work as a freelance translator. On top of that, we started remodeling our house so that we can hopefully sell it next year in order to downsize. Thanksgiving was very memorable: all three girls were home (remember, they all have food allergies as well), and we had no working sink or dishwasher and hardly any countertop space. The kitchen is pretty much a construction zone that my husband works on when he comes home from his regular job every day. We had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner, though, safe for everyone. It took a lot of time to do all the dishes, pots, and pans in the little bathroom sink, but it worked!
I really feel like I have my life back thanks to all of your help and all the wonderful people on this board!

If you survived the sudden death of your 4-legged companion without a flare, you must really know how to handle stress effectively. Good for you.
It's good to hear that your daughters are apparently coping well with their own diets. Thanks for the update and the Thanksgiving story. That was definitely a challenging situation, but it sounds like you were all able to handle it well.
