FDA Approves High-Dose Quadrivalent Flu Vaccine for Seniors

Post by tex »

The FDA recently approved Fluzone High-Dose Quadrivalent Influenza vaccine for older adults. IOW, this version will include immunization to four strains of flu (2 A and 2 B strains). The current vaccine is trivalent, meaning it confers immunity to 2 A strains, and 1 B strain if influenza. Supposedly, the side effects are similar.

I'm still on the fence about flu shots....why am I so hesitant to get one? Is it because of the egg diversion we have when we are reacting to everything....(well now I might be able to tolerate it a bit better since my healing has taken a better turn).

I still have this weak feeling about putting that dead virus in my body.....especially when it took 6 months for the scientists to create this combination of flu vaccine and by then that darn flu could have changed again. I read in Science Nordic that they took the virus from 4 subjects Brisbane, Kansas, Colorado and Phuket, and created this years flu vaccine!

Just talking out loud ;-) If anyone has any reassuring thoughts I'm all ears.

Hi Erica,

I look at it the same way — because I have occasional histamine issues if I overdo something (such as eat anything that contains too much histamine), I continue to decline the flu shots. I wash my hands and avoid crowds. I notice that some of the schools in this area are closing for a few days and they say they will disinfect the buildings, because of the flu. :sigh: Glad I'l not a schoolteacher.
