I've been searching for info on whether or not Pepto Bismol is gluten free. Does anybody have info regarding this?
Thanks!

Hi Cathy,

Below is what I found online about Pepto Bismol being gluten free. It seems like it's always that darn potential of cross-contamination that keeps many products from (rightfully so) being labeled as truly gluten free. Hope this helps!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pepto-Bismol: The familiar pink liquid, marketed by Procter & Gamble to treat diarrhea, heartburn, indigestion, nausea, gas, belching, and fullness, contains bismuth subsalicylate. Pepto-Bismol also offers chewable tablets, capsules, and children's formulations. The products don't contain gluten, according to a Procter & Gamble spokesperson, but may be subject to gluten cross-contamination at the facility where they're made. Instead of brand-name Pepto-Bismol, consider products that contain bismuth subsalicylate, such as Walgreens Brand Diarrhea Relief caplets or Target Up and Up 5 Symptom Digestive Relief liquid.

Thank you tommyboywalker! That possibility of cross contamination always concerns me. I’ll check into those other brands. Thanks again, I really appreciate your response!

Hi Karen...

Hi everyone

I am here because I heard about the Pepto protocol on a MC Facebook group.

I know I need to adjust my diet...I have done an elimination diet of sorts in the past while I was working with a nutritionist, and, during that time, I started to have somewhat normal BMs even before my "official" diagnosis.
Currently I am in the middle of a horrendous flare and am on 9 mg of Budesonide. It's just not working like it did when I first started taking it about 9 mos ago.
So diet along with the Pepto protocol (but using Kaopectate) is my next thought for course of action...I just feel so depleted of energy and mental juju from all the flushing!

I just cannot seem to locate the protocol on this website?
I see the suggestions on this thread...did you ween off of it near the end of 8 weeks? If my symptoms ease after 2 weeks, should I stop then?
So many questions...so excited to have found this forum as I have been dealing with symptoms for years but just received a diagnosis this past spring.

Thanks for any feedback :)

Hi Kelly, welcome! I’m glad you found us though sorry for the need....

I did not complete the protocol.... I lack the mental ability to remember to take the pills 4x/day, sadly. (I say that truthfully but admit I’ve never had a good memory and unless it’s to remember to brush my teeth I’m not liable to remember! 😆😆😆)
I looked up the protocol online and I believe it was 8 pills/day for up to 8 weeks. I’ve heard of a few possible side effects including ringing in the ears. Please don’t move forward on my summary alone as it has been awhile and may not be totally accurate.

You’ll find lots of good information and folks are happy to answer questions. 😊

The November MC Foundation newsletter had an article about the Pepto treatment that you might find useful:
