I have been on Enterocort 9mg a day for four months now. I just recently had an EGD performed two weeks ago and gastritis was found. I read online (I believe it was WebMD) that NSAIDs and corticosteroids commonly cause gastritis.
Is it possible that the Enterocort caused gastritis? Does anyone else have this problem after being on Budesonide? I am currently treating the gastritis with Pepcid (seems to have helped) but am concerned that it will just come right back if I still continue on with the Enterocort at full strength.

Hi Sarah-
In my case the gastritis came with lymphocytic colitis. It was a feature of my first big flare and has been a consistent condition I’ve had to attend to. I had considerable nausea and reflux when my first big flare hit. It did not worsens when I took Budesonide, but I started taking a PPI about the same time I started Budesonide. I think that inflammation from our MC can impact any mucus membrane and it’s all connected. Not only will I have gastritis with a flare but my sinuses ache. My acupuncturist and my integrative med doc have both told me ‘it’s just one long tube’ from the nose to the colon.
It’s an excellent question, and I don’t know that it can be ruled out that corticosteroids and NSAIDs aggravate gastritis. But I do know first hand that gastritis is also a feature of MC.
