Raisins

Post by dolson »

I was eating raisins with no problems. My Celiac book said they were legal but with precaution. I got so hungry I became a hog. Raisins never tasted so good. I took additional insulin because they are sweet.

Well, my luck ran out. I got sick for two days. Diapers, Diarrhea and Despair!

What say y'all about raisins? Thanks, Dorothy

Dried fruits such as raisins contain high amounts of histamine. Your reaction could have been triggered by histamine, but unless you have histamine reaction symptoms (such as a rash, or hives) it's more likely that it was triggered by the amount of sugar in so many raisins. I've been in remission for almost 15 years, and I still get diarrhea from large amounts of sugar (before I developed MC I was a sugarholic).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I also have to be sure not to over do it with sugar. Like Tex said, even after years of remission too much sugar will create problems.

Yes, they do have lots of sugar. But raisins are delicious and I couldn't eat one, but the whole box. I've had to stop cold turkey. I do think it was the histamine factor. Thanks y'all. Dorothy
