Got some blood work results

Post by Cran3 »

Hi all!

Not sure if I should be worried. I got my bloodwork done about two weeks ago, and my doctor said everything looks really good. I viewed my charts and everything was normal, except for my White Blood Cell count. It just said low, but I'm not sure what that means, or if it's common with Collagenous Colitis.

I would appreciate any and all insight. Thank you!

Hi Steven,

No, low white cell count is not common with any type of microscopic colitis, but it happens often enough in the general population (with no ill effects) that doctors almost always are not concerned enough to even follow up on it. If the white cell count was associated with some type of disorder, some of your other test results would also have been abnormal. If your other results looked good, you're probably fine. I've even been there a time or two in the past, with no ill effects.

One member even did a poll:

How many of us had a low white blood cell count?

There weren't many responses, but low white cell count didn't appear to be associated with MC in that poll, either.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

My lymphocyte count has been low for at least 5-6 years prior to my diagnosis of Lymphocytic Colitis. My doctor didn't think there was any connection. Still... Just thought it might be worth noting.
