Flare after 7 years....
Hi everyone,
Never thought I'd be in this position again but as you can tell by the subject topic, I am in a flare. Last Thursday., I ate my egg white omelett elike I have been doing, but decided to add some Sriachi to it. I immediately felt off and vomited and figured, okay, the sauce had garlic in it, which always causes me to vomit. Stomach was gurgling, etc. and since then I've been having loose stools, with big chunks of food, etc. every day multiple times a day. Last night, I was awakened 4 times and barely made it to the toilet. So, my question....how long do I allow this to happen before trying to get some treatment? This is bringing back all kinds of memories of my struggles and I'm so upset as I have been in remission for 7 years. Do I get some budesonide from my PCP which I know will work? Do I try alternative therapies, such as acupuncture, which I know will work? I know I need to do something as it's almost been a week and it seems as though it's just not going to go away. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Cathy,
I used to love to use Sriachi, but I had to give it up due to the histamine level being extremely high. My only suggestion is that if budesonide worked for you previously, then it's almost surely your fastest way back to remission. Many of us have found that full flares that persist for more than a few days can be very, very difficult to control. They seem to have a mind of their own, and many patients find themselves back at square one having to start over.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
So discouraging Tex to read this.....I have resorted to Immodium and used it last night and woke up just once, so that is a plus. I will be calling my Primary to see about the budesonide. It has been so long since I've seen my GI and I had a not so positive interaction with her 6 years ago so am hoping I don't need to go that route.tex wrote:Hi Cathy,

If your MC is on your record, and you've had a prescription for budesoide in the past, often many GPs will write a prescription for budesonide in case of a relapse of symptoms. Since most GPs are easier to get along with, it's worth a try. A phone call might be all you need.

Hi Cathy, I’m so sorry to hear you are in a flare.
The last time I had something set off a big flare it was every bit of 3 weeks before my symptoms let up. My skin looked awful and I lost several pounds, had plenty of dizziness and nausea. I didn’t think I could be that sick again. I felt much weaker when it was done. If you can shorten that misery it would probably be worth it. Maybe both Budesonide and acupuncture.
I hope it resolves soon.
Best wishes,
Carol

It is on my record but my PCP is, "Not comfortable prescribing this drug".....I really pushed her yesterday and told her I know my body and my symptoms but she decided to make a referral to a GI instead. Thanks for the good wishes Carol. I am definitely feeling drained and do not want to end up where I was 7 years ago.
What can I say? She's clearly interested in her "professional comfort", not the welfare of her patients.
