Maybe stupid question.. but does butter have casein in it?
I know butter is mostly just fat and it is legal on the SCDiet which is very very restrictive... but does it contain casein the milk protien? I cant get a definative answer.
Dr Fine test shows positive for gluten and casien but negative for soy, eggs, and yeast
Maybe its UC maybe its MC? Who knows at this point, but at least I know my intollerances now... so heres to the road to healing!

Yes, it does. If lactose were your problem, butter might be OK, because it contains little lactose compared to other dairy products. However, since casein is the culprit, you must avoid ANY product made from milk. Sorry.

I noticed your questions somewhere else about goat and/or sheep milk and cheeses. In response to that I can tell you that most of us experience intolerance to those types of dairy as well - there is casein in it.

My first read through of the SCD prompted the same reaction that you have had. Woe , very , very restrictive. Seemed kind of overboard. Amazingly enough in the next few months of my recovery I discovered it was exactly what I had to to to get well. Now, a few short years later, rather than being restrictive I find that a diet of fruits, vegetables, seafood and natural meat to be a very freeing way of eating.
Grocery shopping is simplicity in itself. A trip down the produce isle, the meat and fish isle and some eggs and nuts and I am done. Over a period of time I have found that I have no reason to buy the expensive health food store products
It is not difficult to learn how to make nourishing soups and stews or make a delicious quick meal on the stove top ,with the the help of a few basic herbs and and some basic cooking techniques. I have learned to enjoy food and health all over again.
The first nine to twelve months were a real learning curve for me. I hope we can help you shorten it.

Thanks for the thanks! I was afraid nobody saw it; and I thought it was so cute. I am so grateful for the food lists offered on the SCD sites. They are so complete. You can never have too much information: between "simple and complex carbs", and lectins, and additives, and paleo foods, all of these have things to think about. And I really like your last post. It is rather freeing to just eat real food and skip chemicals and additives. My grandma cooked for 12 kids that way and still milked the cows and did the garden - how hard could it be? even if you do have to skip a food group or two.
