Low Blood Pressure

Post by ewelder »

Hello group,

Anyone had issues with low blood pressure? I have been feeling really dizzy and light headed past week or so. Called the gastro see if it was a side effect of the budesonide, the gastro said it should not be caused by the budesonide. I am at 3mg every day unless I have C then I skip a day. Went to the dentist yesterday and my blood pressure was 90/60. Any ideas my fellow MCers?

Have a great day all,

Eliza

Hi Eliza,

I've had issues such as that. If your heart rate is up in the tachicardia range, you might be magnesium deficient. That happened to me. If your heart rate is normal (or low), you might be taking too much magnesium (magnesium lowers blood pressure). Dehydration can also cause low blood pressure. Other possibilities are blood loss, heart problems, nutrient deficiency, endocrine problems (such as parathyroid disease, adrenal insufficiency (Addison's disease), low blood sugar), and a severe allergic reaction. I have a hunch that certain drugs can cause this also, but your doctor is correct, budesonide should not cause hypotension.

Tex,

I always have low blood pressure and have recently started back on magnesium. That explains why I have been staying so cold. What can you do to get your magnesium if you already have low blood pressure?

Thanks,
Connie

Hi Connie,

Are you by any chance taking a diuretic, an alpha blocker, or a beta blocker. They can cause low blood pressure. Also, a deficiency of certain B vitamins can cause low blood pressure, specifically B-12 and B-9 (folate). Or you might have methylation issues so that you need the active forms of B-12 and B-9 because your body can't convert the inactive forms of these vitamins.

Have you been checked for parathyroid disease, or Addison's disease (adrenal fatigue or insufficiency). I suspect Addison's disease is more common among MC patients than the general population.

How much magnesium are you using?

Tex,

I take Metanx, so that takes care of the B’s. No, I’m not on any other meds at all. I have always had low blood pressure. I am taking 1 tablet (100mg) of Dr’s Best 100% chelates a day and then sometimes if I can remember I’ll take another before bedtime. Now I’m worried, don’t know exactly what to do??

Thanks for any help,
Connie

I doubt that one or two tablets, spaced out during the day, will make a big difference in your blood pressure.

if you have adrenal insufficiency, you should have some of the following symptoms:
Extreme fatigue.
Weight loss and decreased appetite.
Darkening of your skin (hyperpigmentation)
Low blood pressure, even fainting.
Salt craving.
Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
Nausea, diarrhea or vomiting (gastrointestinal symptoms)
Abdominal pain.
If you have parathyroid disease, you should have some of the following symptoms:

A lump in the neck.
Difficulty speaking or swallowing.
Muscle weakness.
Sudden increase in blood calcium levels (hypercalcemia)
Fatigue, drowsiness.
Urinating more than usual, which may cause you to be dehydrated and very thirsty.
Bone pain and broken bones.
Kidney stone
If you have some of those symptoms, (other than low blood pressure), the next time you see your GP, I would ask her or him to rule out parathyroid disease and/or adrenal insufficiency (depending on symptoms). If you don't have any of those symptoms (other than low blood pressure), you probably don't have a problem. Low blood pressure may just run in your family. Did you ever ask your mother or father if they had low blood pressure?

Thank you Tex for getting back with me. I’ll check on that on my next Drs. Appt. Yes, my mother also had low blood pressure.
