Question about bile acid

Post by Imweljungyst »

My functional Medicine GP put me on Questran (a cholestyramine) to control diarrhea. It was in pill form and I recall taking 2 or three large pills. It did not help with the D.
Should I consider taking a powder form and try again?

I have cut back to veggies steamed, fish, chicken and turkey, and a banana a day, and still having D 6 or more times a day. Tapering off of Budesonide and taking every second day.

Also what does BAM stand for?

Thanks.

Hi June,

BAM is bile acid malabsorption. It's been shown by published medical research to be the cause of at least 40 % of persistent diarrhea cases that do not respond to normal treatment methods (including MC patients). Questran fails to work in a lot of cases. Maximize your chances of being able to find a dose that will actually resolve your diarrhea by asking your doctor to prescribe not just a powder form, but the original Sandoz version of cholestyramine. Yes, the manufacturer matters. Most versions won't work for us. Experiment with the dose and slowly fine tune it until you find the dose that works best for you.

I hope this helps.
