Sacchromyces Boulardi
Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and have learnt a great from this forum and the newsletters. I was diagnosed with MC (lymphocytic) about 6 years ago from a colonoscopy but was almost symptom free until around 7 months ago when i started getting all the normal MC symptoms. I was on Budesonide for 3 months but my symptoms returned when finished. I did know about the benefits of Sacchromyces Boulardi for diarrhea from previous research so started taking a capsule whenever things were bad. It is a probiotic yeast and works very well for me personally. It stops diarrhea and loose bms within a day, and now generally i only take about 1/3 of a capsule to maintain normal bowel movements, sometimes more when i am on holidays or not eating well. It is definitely worth trying!
Hi Leigh!
I took doxycycline for 3 weeks due to a disease from a tick bite.
I took sacchromyces boulardi during & after treatment, and suffered no ill effects from the drug.
I thought that was pretty amazing as I expected to go out of remission because of the antibiotic.

Thanks for your response Linda.
For those that are not aware of S. boulardi.....
results from 2 clinical trials shows improved outcomes for persistent diarrhea. On Pubmed "Efficacy and Safety of S. Boulardi for Prevention and Therspy of GI. disorders". .....S. Boulardi been prescribed for 30 years as prophylactic and treatment of diarrheal diseases.
Several mechanisms of action have been identified:
Regulation of intestinal microbial homeostasis
Interference with ability of pathogens to colonize and infect mucosa
Modulation of local and systemic immune responses
Stabilisation of gastrointestinal barrier function
Inclusion of enzymes favouring absorption of nutrition.."
There appears to be very little downside to taking S.Boulardi over long period.
"Study of S.B. Found lyophilized products oitperformed heat killed preparations."
I have used the product on and off for many years, with complete satisfaction. It has enabled me to lead a normal life despite the very unpleasant symptoms pf MC. I alter the dosage depending on my symptoms but always returns to better, less frequent bm's.
would highly recommend to anyone who has not tried it.
Regards,
Leigh

Even those who react to yeast while suffering an MC reaction normally have no problems with it when in remission. For most of us, it provides no benefits (unless we're taking certain antibiotics). However, it seems to help a few individuals, and they swear by it.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
