I was diagnosed with Lymphocytic Microscopic Colitis last month and can't get a grip on anything. On Budesonide, Qurestran, Lomotil, and Imodium. Nothing is working. Have major blowouts especially in the morning. I have resigned to wearing Depends when I go out. I am not eating: dairy, gluten, soy, caffeine, very little sugar, fresh fruit, fresh vegetable. Still marble. Going out to restaurants is difficult. I keep kosher, so I don't eat meat of any kind, poultry out of my home, and no shellfish ever. This limits me in restaurants. I am going out to lunch, and now I read I can't eat eggs on the elimination diet. Can I eat egg whites? Other suggestions?

Welcome to the group. Egg whites are safe for most of us. Frankly, without eating adequate protein, I don't see how you intend to ever heal. Healing the intestinal damage caused by gluten requires a lot of protein. Without meat, soy, or legumes, your diet is bound to be low on protein.

Meat is what humans evolved on, and it's the only food that contains all the essential amino acids necessary for health. Some of us react to beef, pork and/or chicken, but no one reacts to turkey or lamb. All wild-type meats are safe also, except for bison. These days virtually all bison contain domestic cattle DNA. Rabbit, duck, goose, quail, pheasant, emu, ostrich, venison, alligator, antelope, and virtually all other types of wild meat are also safe for all of us. It's very unfortunate that previous lifestyles are often disrupted, but this is not a very forgiving disease. It can be very cruel if we refuse to adapt to it.

I do not keep kosher now but I grew up in a kosher home so I know what your protein choices are. I would stick to kosher lamb and turkey for protein and I would not go out to eat for the time being. I spent a month when things were at their worst for me eating only ground lamb. It can be done but you have to be dedicated and disciplined. I have a kind of mantra I use to remind myself of my goals. I tell myself that "if you want the results you have to create the causes". It's amazing how what once seemed impossible to do can becomes your new normal if you dedicate yourself to it.
Hi Daba- it’s not unusual at all (early on) for us to eat the same few safe foods everyday. To improve we have to keep our diets as clean as possible, including making sure your foods at home aren’t cross contaminated. If you live alone you can control it but if you live with someone else who is not gluten free, then you’ll have to educate them on cross-contamination— what it means and how it happens.
After I went gluten free I made some pumpkin bread for my daughter using wheat flour and I was sick the next 2 days, just from breathing it in. So, I no longer have wheat flour around, my cookware has never had gluten containing foods in them, I tossed out my wooden spoons, and my husband has his own prep area and his own cabinet should he buy anything that has gluten in it. He’s not allowed in my prep area and I have my own gluten free cabinets for my snack foods. If he wants to eat some of my almonds or gf pretzels he has to shake them out of the bag. He’s not allowed to reach his hands into my bags of food ( because I’ve been glutened in the past from him doing this). Sounds severe but now it’s routine.
Cook simple meat and vegetable meals at home and it will help you considerably toward reducing inflammation.
