I just wanted to respond that I finally found a zinc supplement that I can tolerate and have been taking it for about 3 weeks. Surprisingly, my everyday itching especially in allergy season has decreased significantly. I am able to tolerate histamine foods much better than before. I am still not overdoing it and continue to eat from frozen or fresh though.

However, my seasonal rosacea and headaches are ramping up especially now since everything is blooming. Also, I would love to go work in my yard. I wanted to see what daily dose you guys recommend or what is working for you? I thought maybe I wasn't taking enough, but I didn't want to take too much. I read 8 mg zinc RDA for women. Is this accurate? I was taking 5mg of zinc daily.

Sadly, I am trying to order more zinc this am, and it is currently unavailable. I guess everyone is ordering my brand since the coronavirus. Hopefully, I can find a different one. It is so nice not itching non-stop and having to relay on drying out antihistamines for help. Thank you so for all of your recommendations!

Hi Martha,

Unless you know that your copper level is high (relative to your zinc level), remember that the zinc/copper ratio is more important than the absolute values of either. If I recall correctly, ideally, it should be about 15. I take Soloray zinc/copper vegcaps, which contain:

53 mcg of iodine (from kelp)
50 mg zinc (as zinc amino acid chelate complex)
2 mg copper (as copper amino acid chelate complex)

Note that this product does contain citric acid from tapioca, in case that's a problem for you.

My allergy issues and general histamine problems have slowly resolved since I've been taking this. They've apparently been under good control for some time now. I've also been taking 1,000 mg of vitamin C every other day, but I boosted that to every day when the coronavirus threat surfaced. I'm using Soloray timed release vitamin C, 1000 mg VegCaps. But this is ascorbic acid, from Acerola Cherry, Rose Hips.

Thank you Tex for your response. I am worried the one you use will irritate my interstitial cystitis. The zinc that I was using was one that I put under my tongue. I am going to see if I can find a sublingual form with zinc and copper or take those separately. Those are pretty few and far between, sadly. Maybe if I do try the ones you mentioned and not take them everyday. I have noticed that with taking magnesium pills. I alternate them to 3 times a week, but still use my oil throughout the day.

I believe if I can get the right dose in me daily, my histamine issue will be reduced. You have given me much hope!

I have been trying to eat more avocados also. I saw where Gabes mentioned those. They don't bother me at all, yay.

I struggle with getting enough vitamin C too, due to my bladder. I found a spray, but it is a very low dose. I look all of the time for new choices in sublingual and concentrated liquid forms.
