I did get an email from Daba and we corresponded a few times. Just an update for you. I took Imuran for many years without side effects. It helped so much. I was able to drop down to 50 mg then to 25 mg. I was beginning to take it only a few days a week and ready to stop taking it in late 2019. In Oct. of 2019 I landed in the hospital with an acute case of pancreatitis. It was pretty bad and I was on every pain med they had. The first thing they did was take away Imuran and a new drug for me, hydrochlorothiazide (I had only been on a low dose for about 2 weeks). My lipase level was about 2,500 when I went in. I had an MRI done and they found a cyst on the pancreas, an old MRI was found that I had in 2010 which also showed the cyst, but nothing was mentioned. I had also been in a bumper to bumper car accident a few days prior. So between the new med, tightening of the seat belt the doctors could not give me a definitive reason for the attack, but it was the first one. At first they wanted to do the Whipple surgery (UGH!!!), but decided to present it to the tumor board at a teaching hospital here in Massachusetts and I also got a 2nd opinion from a great doctor in New Hampshire who is head of the tumor board there. I had some sort of endoscopy (can't remember the exact procedure) and they found it to be non-cancerous. So, now we are just watching it with labs and MRI every 6 months.
I still remain GF, dairy sparingly, same with soy. Other than that I eat a pretty normal diet.
As far as Imuran goes, I would still recommend trying it. I had no side effects for years and my doctor did labs every three months. It turned my life around.

Many thanks for that update. I appreciate it. The question comes to mind, "Why on earth did they stop the Imuran and replace it with a diuretic?" Maybe they thought you just didn't need it any more.

They didn't replace it with a diuretic. My PCP had added a diuretic for my BP two weeks prior and my GI was taking me off the Imuran when I landed in the hospital. The doctors in the ER took away both meds and I have remained off of both for the last 6 months. They said it is possible that both meds. could have irritated the pancreas.
