Sheer White! Teeth Whitening Strips. Also eczema question.

Post by kariswalstad »

Hello! I am wondering if the tooth whitening strips I got at the dentist have put me into a mini-flare. The brand is Sheer White and here is the link - https://caogroup.com/products/sheer-whi ... 4ccd&_ss=r. They use Carbamide Peroxide but I cannot find any other ingredients. https://secureservercdn.net/50.62.172.2 ... w_msds.pdf is the link to the MSDS sheet.

I was doing really well 9 months into recovery, but about a week ago I started having worse fatigue again, feeling very heavy and just unwell, a little D but mostly ribbon stools. Then yesterday it really got bad, with WD and excruciating knee pain. I am almost positive I haven't been glutened or ingested any other poison! Do you think these strips could be the culprit? It didn't cross my mind until I put one in tonight (it's been a couple weeks since I used them last, and before that, many months) and the cloying flavor reminded me of artificial sweeteners.

Now that I am writing, I realize that I started getting patches of eczema again which I haven't had in a couple decades. That started a few weeks ago. My skin dried out drastically after surgical menopause in January (I am on an estrogen-only HRT patch), but the eczema spots are new. I've been using coconut oil and pure shea butter, which helps, but I still feel so dry, like nothing is actually soaking in. Plus my magnesium is all topical since I'm not stable enough to try pills, which feels like it dries me out more.

But am I having an aha moment that my symptoms are simply evolving again, rather than actual healing?? Is there a spectrum and eczema is "less bad" than constant pain and D and brain fog and fatigue? Ugh... Please tell me it's all part of the healing path...

Hello Karis,

That sounds like a substantial detour in your recovery path, rather than a minor bump in the road. I suspect that the hydrogen peroxide is probably the cause of your symptoms. The simplest way to verify whether the whitening strips are a major problem is to stop using them for a while. While it may not be toxic to everyone, hydrogen peroxide has been documented to cause colitis. Here's a link to an example:

Chemical colitis caused by hydrogen peroxide vaginal douche: A case report

I hope this resolves the problem and gets you back on the path to recovery.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I'd eliminate them. I have been okay with the whitening gel on a mouthguard. My hygieniest pushes the whitening mouth washes but they scare me due to the ingredient lists.

Knee pain is a huge sign that I've been gluttoned.

Wow. I am so careful with what I consume and use on my body anymore, and I'd researched before I did it, but I sure wish I'd posted here before I used them. I am absolutely not going to use them again. I am also going to increase the budesonide to one a day (I had been doing e/o day for a few weeks) and rest, rest, rest. Thanks for the validation and support. I appreciate you so much.
