Hi, Emily. I don't use Pepto Bismol now but when I was your age I used to take the liquid just before eating. My mother's theory was that it helped by coating my stomach.
Emily, you remind me a lot of myself when I was your age. I had all sorts of digestive problems and other illnesses. But around my 18th birthday things suddenly got much, much better! I've had no digestive symptoms since then except for LC that started last year and is now in remission.
Hang in there, Emily. Everyone here at this forum is routing for you 1000%!

Hi Emily,
If you are on a long-term treatment program, I don't believe the exact timing matters as much as taking uniform doses at regular intervals, so that the walls of your GI system is continuously coated. The PB will help to supplement the usual mucus coating in your GI tract, and provide additional protection, so that the lining of your GI tract will be better protected from irritants, and have an improved opportunity to heal.
I wish you the best of luck with your treatment, and will keep my fingers crossed that it works.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

HEY!!!
Emily, I'm SO GLAD you decided to find your voice!!! :)
When I did the Pepto treatment, I took it 3 times daily, at regular intervals. One dose at 5am, one at about noon, and one right before dinner, usually around 6pm. It DID help while I was on it, with the pain and nausea, bloating, and some with the diarrhea, but did not bring me "norman"; HOWEVER, I was just starting the GF diet at the time, and quick results as far as that goes aren't really expected. It can take days or months to heal the gut depending on the person.
But in your case, I wish you all the best!!!! And stop by more often!

A sidenote on Mars' comments..
I preferred liquid. Tastes nasty, but it coats the stomach as well as the esophagus MUCH better.
