Calcium supplements bloating and constipation

Post by Mackey »

Having terrible bloating and constipation and I think it is from my calcium supplement - my doc recommended it due to low Vit D and osteopenia. Anyone else struggle with that? Maybe I just need vitamin D - what is recommended amount?

Low vitamin D will lead to osteopenia. So yes, you only need vitamin D. It will help you to absorb plenty of calcium from your normal diet. With fall and winter coming on, you're probably going to need 7,000 or 8,000 IU (or more) for a few months in order to eliminate the vitamin D deficiency. I would retest after a few months to see if you need to raise or lower the dose.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Vit D deficiency

Post by Mackey »

Thanks Tex. I am going to give that a try. My latest blood work showed my VitaminD level was 17 ng and my doctor recommended taking calcium with Vit D. After reading some of your book on Vit D, I realized I really need to step up my Vit D intake. I live in AZ so you would think I get a lot from sun. Also, read a Medical News Today article recommending taking 6,000 IU per day for8 weeks if one is deficient and then go down 2,000. No wonder I have been feeling bad. You are such a valuable source of information - I have learned so much from you and this support forum.
