Could Vitamin D3 be causing WD?

Post by KarenP57 »

After two months on your suggested restricted diet (turkey, chicken, rice, potatoes and overcooked veggies), I was having more WD episodes, not less. I returned to my GI. He suggested it must be something else I was taking. The only thing I was taking was Liquid IV rehydration powder and Vitamin D3. I stopped both and hallelujah, Norman is back.

Could it have been the D3? And if so would an oral spray work? Also, I haven't been able to tolerate magnesium glycinate, and so take Epsom salt baths and rub on lotion.

Thanks,

Karen
Hope for healing with group intelligence.

Hi Karen,

It's possible, but very unlikely. Normally, it takes very high doses of vitamin D (20,000–40,000 IU daily) for several months to cause digestive symptoms. I would look very closely at the liquid IV rehydration powder. If that's not the problem, you can get vitamin D patches that allow you to absorb vitamin D through the skin.

I would also suspect the commercial rehydration powder. Unless it is only water and salt the commercial rehydration powders can be problematic due to too many ingredients.

Oral supplements in general are problematic for me when I am struggling. Can you get out in the sun for 20 minutes on your lunch break? If not there are D3 patches.

If you are getting solid stool I would avoid rehydration solutions, the commercial one and you probably don't need Polly's recipe either.

+++++I corrected the above. It did not make sense.+++++Use Polly's solution if you have WD.
If solid stool avoid all rehydration solutions.

My Vit.D3 has soy. If you are sensitive to soy could that be the problem?

Yes, for most of us who are sensitive to soy, that would be a problem.

What Vit D3 patch do you recommend?

Also, is there a Vit A and a Vit K2 patch that you recommend?

Thanks

These have been discussed on the forum. I can't personally vouch for them.
