jen wrote:My GI wrote to me this am.I emailed him last night with a few concerns.
Mainly, I HAVE NO DIARRHEA or any other symptoms of c-diff.
I do have nausea off and on all day, but no cramping, pain, gas, bloating etc.
This was his response:

"Given the improvement in symptoms, your absence c diff toxin (just the DNA for c diff), you are probably a healthy colonizer and not infected. Lots of healthy people are colonized by c diff. ( and we don't treat them).
The decision to treat is based on presence or absence of symptoms. So perhaps it is indeed best to stand down."

This is my STOOL TEST result:

"Gastrointestinal Pathogen Clostridium difficile Toxin A/B gene only * - > Detected"
"C. difficile TOXIN A/B, STOOL - QDx Negative"
"C. difficile Chek (GDH), Stool - QDx Positive"

DOES ANYONE WANT TO TAKE A STAB AT THAT, I DON'T QUITE UNDERSTAND.
Thank you,
Jen
Interesting development. I cannot comment on this but hopefully Tex and the medical folks can add some insite.

I've been on this journey for 22 years. Currently staying close to home as I was getting careless in my eating and was glutined at a local restaurant by assuming the waiter knew what I needed. Nothing like the return of D to get your attention. Since we are hosting people
in our basement apartment, which is also my "emergency" bathroom, I am forced to use a camp bucket in the garage for my emergencies and someone is in our main bathroom upstairs. This has been going on now for a month. I tell you my diet is now very limited, in a hurry. The weather is getting cold to be using a camp bucket in a garage :). Hang in there Jen. Glad my words were encouraging. We sure all need that in times of trial. That's why I am back on this forum so much anymore. It is a life saver for me. When our doctors don't get it, our members sure do. A bright note is that our guests are planning on leaving for home again at the end of this week. They were helping their daughter and her family of 5 children after the daughter fell and broke her leg in 3 places and could put no weight on it. They have been helping now for over a month but the daughter is getting around better and they feel they can leave now. I think the Lord brought them into my life and the D at about the same time to get me back on track with my food choices. It's the camp bucket that really got my attention.

Hi Jen,
I understand where you are now. I was there 3 years ago and couldn’t figure out what fire to try and put out first..

My problem ultimately seems to be bile acid malabsorption..collagenous colitis diagnosed on biopsy. Most things that have helped me came from this forum and these people! I just had to take the info and run with it and tailor it to my needs and issues

I’ve never had nausea, ever. I do believe (like Tex says) that the SIBO goes away once things stabilize. I first read about Betaine HCl here and didn’t think much of it. Ultimately I believe that it helped me enormously. I did more reading about why you would need it..and ANXIETY was listed. Wow! Anyhoo, since that was something I was dealing with and couldn’t shake no matter how much magnesium I slathered on myself..I continued reading!

Do a little research, maybe it may help . I still take one with every meal...down from 5 with protein meals

Hi Jen,

Regarding the lab results of your C. diff tests:

Your test for C, diff DNA was positive, and your glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) test was positive, so you definitely are hosting a colony of C. diff in your intestines. But since your toxin test was negative (confirmed by a lack of symptoms), the colony seems to be benign, (non-toxigenic). That means they're just a bunch of opportunistic freeloaders, not troublemakers. Unless that toxin test changes to positive, you don't need to be trying to treat them. At least, that's my opinion.

So I hope you didn't waste a lot of time worrying about them. When we worry, we always focus on the worst possible outcome, and that almost never happens in real life. As the other members have posted, things are never as hopeless as they seem.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Tex, and i did waste time worrying about it..............like the entire night!!
I suppose there is nothing i can do to ward this off?
Its not as if i can take probiotics, i am freshly diagnosed?
Seems i am full of bad bacteria with the SIBO and the c-diff colonies.........just an uneasy feeling as we all know the horror stories of c-diff infections.
Thanks so mucj

All those bacteria will probably fall by the wayside as your intestines heal, and your digestion improves. They'll be nudged out by the species that previously colonized your gut before you developed MC. Remember, they're only there because your digestion is so poor because of the MC flare. After that poor digestion is gone, they'll be gone.

Please stop worrying about them and get plenty of sleep — it's one of the best things you can do for your general health.

Tex,
You are the best!!
I have only been on here for a month and you have been such a help.
Imagine how many people you have supported over the years.
Must be a great feeling to know how good you make people feel.
One last question tonight..........do you think all my nausea is from either SIBO or c-diff? Aren't typical symptoms diarrhea, pain, gas , bloating etc?
If not, its a mystery to me and my docs why i have been nauseated for over 2 months.
Good night Tex and thank you
Jen

Hi Jen,

I am on the Central Coast. Lucky for me, we have many wonderful farmers and a butcher, so my food supply is very local, pure and fresh. This really helps with the plain, whole food MC diet.

I hope you are better today.

Hi Jen,

You're very welcome. Contrary to most medical opinions, about a third of us have nausea when we develop MC. The official medical description of microscopic colitis is very incomplete, and this is probably the main reason why most doctors don't understand the disease. I had nausea so severe that it often interfered with my work. I missed more than a few mornings at work because of nausea. Nausea may be caused by SIBO, or C.diff, but in many cases it's associated with a chronic magnesium deficiency. Looking back, I believe that was the main cause of my nausea. If a magnesium supplement doesn't seem to help, sometimes a daily antihistamine will help.

Lucky for you Harmony33, i am closer to los angeles, no local farmers that i am aware of, but i will research.
Tex, my mag is 2.10 the range says 1.6-2.6.
Just hate for the nausea to be from either sibo or c-diff and i am not treating it?

That sounds like a serum magnesium test, which is is only valid at the moment of the blood draw. Since the body automatically regulates the serum magnesium level in a narrow range from cellular reserves, the serum level will always be in the normal range until the body runs completely out of magnesium. You can have a safe serum magnesium test result, and then run out of magnesium later that same night, during the wee hours of the morning.

Feel free to treat SIBO or C. diff if you want to — I'm not advising you not to treat them. I'm simply saying that doing so virtually always turns out to be a waste of time and money.

Tex,
I don't feel that way.
What i meant was since no one is able to figure out why i have been this nauseaous for over 2 months, wouldn't it be something if t were from sibo/cdiff
I am actually scared to death to take another antibiotic as taking one in July, triggered this nightmare for me.

Thank you as always!
Jen
