Glutaloemine - digestive enzymes - protein shakes

Post by barbieAnn »

Hello -

i haven't written in a while. I have been seeing a nutritionist for the past six months or so. Been through various tests - re did the stool tests, blood work etc. He had put me on glutaloemine, which I was taking every night. About a teaspoon in any cool drink. I am also taking a probiotic - he actually has me on half of a pill every day. i have noticed improvement - my bowel movements are actually mostly formed for the first time in a long time. The problem is that although they are formed, there is still quite a large volume. I still cannot gain the weight back that I lost and I still get stomach pain and tenesmus.

He has been trying to get me to drink a protein shake which I am finding extremely difficult to do. No matter what I mix with this stuff, it is nauseating to me. He says that I need to take in a lot of protein in order to heal.

I have had this disease now for almost 3 years and I still am struggling. As I said before, even though for the most part, my stools are formed, there is still a large volume and I still get cramping, gas, fatigue etc. Just wanted to see if anyone else has tiried these things -

Hi BarbieAnn,
I have not tried protein shakes but I wonder if nut milks (almond, cashew) would be better sources of protein. Or bone broths. I just looked at some commercial bone broths and many had 10grams or more of protein. It would be easy to add seasonings like rosemary or sage to them to enhance the flavor. Nondairy yogurts from almond or coconut milk might also have a decent amount of protein. Maybe there are alternatives that are palatable. I find trying to force myself to eat something I don’t care for is super stressful and not worth it.

I recently started to take pancreatic digestive enzymes under the supervision of a functional med doc and they been helpful to me with both upper and lower GI motility issues. I’ve been able to get off of Zantac and I am more regular now. But I don’t know that this is helpful to MC in general. I’m about 8 1/2 years post diagnosis and have been in remission for 5-6 years. I think this is just fine tuning I have to do.
As far as probiotics, I tried them years ago and they induced urgent bms with gut discomfort for me after 1 or 2 doses so I decided they weren’t for me.

I’m sorry you are struggling. This is a tough, often relentless disease.

Wishing you the best,
Carol

Hi, BarbieAnn,
Do you think the improvement you experienced was due to the GlutAloeMine? Or the probiotic? I ask because a doctor friend recommended XYMOGEN's GlutAloeMine to my husband, who is also severely underweight. He hasn't been taking any supplements other than one or two Tibetan herbal pills for digestion and the liver. But perhaps the GlutAloeMine is something to seriously consider.

Thanks!
Lydia
