Hi Everyone

Post by Bobbie »

Hi Everyone,
first of all i want to thank you all for your prayers i got an email from Tess and i briefly explained what was going on in my life and asked her to let you all know why i had'nt been on the board for so long, well i will try and fill you in a little.
On the 31 October Sheba had five pups 4 boys and one girl, they were beautiful and she was a brilliant mum, but the joy of the birth did not last long as on the second of November while i was at work i got a phone call that my sister had a massive stroke, i left work at once and went to the hospital there i stayed, luckily for me my very good friend came round to my house and looked after sheba and the pups.
I stayed at the hospital for the next 3 days then my sister had a massive brain hemorrage the doctors told us she was not going to make the night and to call all the family in, but she made it through the night and my brother in law and i stayed at the hospital for the next two weeks, she was having sezurs every five minuets then one day about 10 days had passed and she just opeaned her eyes, it was just unbelievable.
The stroke afected the right side of the brain but the bleed afected the left and there is a lot of damage although she can speak and eat, she knows everyone but there is no reasoning and her personality is entirely different she gets very depressed and crys a lot, she is paralized down her left side, and she does'nt seem to have any will. she has been out of the hospital now for 4 weeks and i look after her most of the day in her house.
My sister has always been a very happy go lucky person and full of life and her pleasure's in life were looking after everyone and waiting on people and doing things to make other's happy, and now she is in her worse nightmare, out of all of my family my sister and i have been the closest, and now she just wants me with her all the time, she does'nt want anyone else there to do anything for her just me, which is causing a bit of friction with me and her husband and with one of her daughters, i am trying to ignore them my only concern is my sister but it is very hard. Some days i just come home and cry, she is just so sad which breaks my heart.
I also feel really bad because i have been neglecting my son Jack although he does understand, Jack has always called my sister nan because all of his granparents are dead. and he is very close to my sister but i had to stop him going to the hospital because every time he went to see her it would make him sick for 2 or 3 days after and then he failed his driveing test then when he went out on Xmas eve he got drunk and the police arrested him for being drunk and disorderly and now we have to go to court.
Then early Feb i had to pack up my job because i was unloading a cage in the freezer and lifted a heavy box and gave myself a hernia.
With all the stress the colitus has been terrible so i have'nt been eating very well which is making the acid reflux worse, and just to put the iceing on the cake i have got to have the carpel tunnel operation on the 12 April but all in all life is,nt too bad :???:
But i have really missed you guys and am glad that i now have a little time to visit the board and catch up with you all.

Take care everyone and be happy.
God bless
Love Bobbie

My goodness, Bobbie, what a nightmare for your sister and the whole family. It must be very very hard on you emotionally. well, in every way. Since they didn't even expect her to live, I don't suppose there is too much hope for a big recovery for her. Does she go to therapy at all?

You are doing the best you can. Please take care of yourself. That hernia is no help I'm sure. I hope you are getting to enjoy the new puppies and spend some time with your son.

Hazel is right, what a nightmare for all of you. I am so so sorry you are going through all this, Bobbie.

I do hope that you will be able to take better care of yourself soon. I understand how you feel when your sister only wants you but may I say that she really needs to learn to depend on others also. You can't do everything for her and take care of your family too.

I will be thinking of you and your whole family, especially your sister.

Wow! Bobbie,

I'm so sorry to read about all the bad news. You've been through some really tough times. I hope and pray that your sister will get better, and that things will become easier for you.

I agree with Kathy and Shirley. I know that you love your sister, and you would do anything for her, but please remember that you have a life of your own, and you have to take care of yourself, too. After all, if you neglect your own health, and you get seriously ill, you won't be able to help take care of her.

We've missed you, and I hope you can join us more often. And remember that you and your sister are in our thoughts and prayers every day.

Love,
Wayne

I agree with Wayne that you have to take time to look after yourself. I know you love your Sister and give you full credit for doing your best for her, but if your health gives out you will be no good to her or your own family.

I worked with many stroke patients and depression is very common. Also hanging on to one person is common. She needs to have help from others also and to understand that you are only capable of doing so much. She will forgive you in the long run if you let others help.

I've heard the medical system in England is not too good. Do they have facilities for helping stroke patients? Here in Canada there are daycare drop in centers where stroke patients, amongst other health challenged patients, can go for physiotherapy, counselling and being with others in a social situation with the same problems.

If you continue to be there constantly for your Sister, she will not move forward in her recovery because she will become totally dependant on you and your health will suffer also.

If there is a Health Ministry in your city, call them to ask about what help is available.

I hope you don't take offence at my advice - it's given with the best intentions.

Please take care of yourself and your family.

Love - Momster :bigbighug: :flowersmiley:

Bobbie,

Goodness.........you have been through quite a lot these last few months. My heart goes out to you and you have tons of prayers and hugs coming your way.

Take care of yourself. As others said, you must take care of yourself or you won't be able to help others!

I hope all goes well with your son.

You're in my thoughts and prayers,
