Symptoms?

Post by Luanng »

Hi guys, I’m new to the group and have a few questions. Do you all get pain and nausea? I get terrible pain on my left side, right above my hip bone. When the pain is bad it makes me nauseous, then I feel better. So to give you an idea of the pain, I thought it was from my uterine fibroids. Until I had a hysterectomy to fix it and to my surprise the pain was still there 😕.I haven’t heard anyone mention these symptoms, so I was curious. The pain is usually resolved with either nausea or the other end. I haven’t started the diet yet, well not totally. I do feel better when I avoid gluten. I am also trying to go vegetarian, so I worry about the recommended diet. Any insight would be appreciated. BTW I am so happy I found this site, not a lot of information out there.

Hi,

Welcome to the board. Statistically, about half of us have pain when our MC is active, The other half never have any pain. About a quarter to a third of us have nausea as a frequent symptom. Sometimes the pain is associated with a diverticulitis reaction, because the mode of inflammation (lymphocytic infiltration into the mucosa of the colon) is almost identical to the inflammation that causes LC But that pain should be in the area of the sigmoid colon (the lower left quadrant). Pain in the lower right quadrant (the appendix area) is common with MC.

The problem with a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle is that it takes a lot of protein to heal the intestines, and most MC patients are sensitive to soy, which also makes them sensitive to virtually all legumes. This makes getting enough protein to heal the gut almost impossible without a lot of meat in the diet. In fact, some MC patients feel that their MC was initially caused by a vegetarian lifestyle.

That said, if you are not sensitive to soy, and you're able to remain that way, you should be able to achieve remission on a vegetarian diet if you minimize the fiber.

Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
