Hello,
my name is Allyson and I am 22 years old. In November of 2019 I was diagnosed with Microscopic Colitis from a simple colonoscopy done. My treatment plan I was presented with was prevalite and/or pepto when needed. Well, neither worked. I eventually asked to be on medication and was on budesonide for 2 weeks, it didn't worsen or better my symptoms. After that I had moved to a different state and just forgot all about it. It was tolerable, and well this was my new norm right? Fast forward to today, my husband and I are undergoing fertility treatments and I fear that MC might make it worse to conceive.
I am currently doing the elimination diet, however, it seems to worsen all of my symptoms. Before the elimination diet I would only have diarrhea 2-3x a day. I even ate fast food quite often and never got sick...well until the next morning at least. Now, currently I have tried bananas, turkey breast, salmon, rice and overcooked green beans and am getting severely sick. I cut out all gluten, dairy, egg, soy. I have had to run to the bathroom and my diarrhea has worsened and is now at least 6 times a day... is this even normal?
My husband seems to think my body is detoxing but I am just not sure. I have an appointment with gastro in March but I am not sure what to do in the mean time.
I am frustrated, stressed, upset and just so confused. Any help or suggestions would be amazing. I'm at a loss.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from others.
-Allyson.
I don't know what's happening with my body.

Hello Allyson,
Welcome to the board. I see that no one has responded, probably because they're not sure what to make of your situation, so I'll offer my thoughts:
What you've described is atypical for MC patients. Usually, making those diet changes brings improvement. It could just be a coincidence, because for most of us, the symptoms become more severe as time passes. But adopting an elimination diet shouldn't cause the symptoms to worsen. I can imagine a reason why that should happen. If the situation is still continuing to deteriorate, you might as well go back to your previous diet. We have to listen to our bodies.
Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything. Hopefully someone else will be able to shed some insight on this, based on their experience.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Re: I don't know what's happening with my body.
It just occurred to me that you said that you're undergoing fertility treatments. MC responds rather strongly to hormone treatments, and the response is almost always negative. If you're taking hormone treatments now, that will almost surely make your MC symptoms worse, despite the diet changes. It least, that's my best guess.
