Cleaning glutened utensils
Hi all!
I got a used electric donut maker from my mom, but she is not gluten free, and I just wanted some suggestions for cleaning before I try....or should I even try?

Re: Cleaning glutened utensils
Hi Linda,
I wasn't sure what a donut maker was so I looked these up and it appears to be like a waffle iron but for donuts.
If I were to clean I'd glove up my hands and do multiple applications of very hot soapy water with heavy scrubbing multiple times. It does not look like the donut makers can be immersed.
Alternatively, it looks like new donut makers can be had for around $23 - $29 so it may make sense to donut
what you have and pick up a new one.
I donated Dad's waffle iron when I was cleaning out his house as there were too many crevices to clean.

Hey, Brandy!
The electric donut maker that my mom gave me is from the 70’s but still works, so I thought I’d give it a try for Valentine’s Day, but I am apprehensive.
I wanted to ask you about what you take for bone loss or osteoporosis. Tex had mentioned a mineral that you’ve used successfully.
I’m trying calcium/magnesium but having a tough time finding a balance so I’m not constipated or the opposite!

Re: Cleaning glutened utensils
Calcium--I'm currently getting mine from almond milk, currently Califia brand. I eat some veggies here and there that have a bit of calcium too. I'm not supplementing calcium and probably have not supplemented in 5 years or so.
Magnesium--I take 400 mg mag glycinage in the evening.
Strontium---this is what Tex was talking about. I am taking AOR brand now. I've taken it intermittantly over the last 5 years. Recommended dose is 680 mg per day. Do not take with or around calcium.
4 and 5 years ago I took 680 mg strontium for 6 months kind of as an insurance policy before Dexa. (In 24 month period I took strontium for 6 months)
3 and 2 years ago I took 340 mg for about 9 months before Dexa kind of as an insurance policy. (In 24 month period I took strontium for 9 months).
I have not taken it in 2 years but I started up again about 6 weeks ago. I'm taking 340 mg for the next 12 months before my next Dexa. Due to Covid my weight training has not been what it normally is due to to the fact I'm scared to go to the gym. Prior to restarting my spine was "rattling" in bed. Once I started back on the strontium no more noises from my spine.
It is recommended that you take it at night, away from calcium, without food. I TAKE EVERY SUPPLEMENT WITH A BIT OF FOOD. So, I take strontium with a bit of food. I've had good Dexa's the last two times (over 4 years) but I also do weight training.
If I was not doing weight training I'd take the 680 mg which is what is recommended.
Hope this helps.

Hi Brandy! Thanks!
Does the strontium have any side effects that you’ve experienced? It’s odd that my stomach would hurt and bloat from the calcium, but it does.

Re: Cleaning glutened utensils
Hi Linda,
I had 0 side effects from strontium and I did the full dose of 680 mg for 6 months. I have a girlfriend who has
been on the 680 for 4 years straight. We've both had bone gains. The side effect that I've had is positive in that I no longer have the crumbling noise in my spine in the morning.
They tell you to take it away from any calcium and to take it on an empty stomach before bed or in the middle of the night. I've always taken it with food. Generally I take it in the evening after dinner. I think it is too risky for us to take things on an empty stomach.
I go to an MD/functional medicine doctor. He worked as a medical doctor before he went to functional medicine school.
He is the one who recommended it (although I'd previously heard about it.)
